Dometic CK40D Thermoelectric / Compressor Hybrid Cooler is a multi-purpose fridge and freezer, this hybrid compressor cooler is highly efficient and provides excellent performance.. Two cooling systems in one box.

Are you looking for a highly efficient cooling appliance for the awning, the patio, or the garage workshop? Ideally, also for the car or recreational vehicle? Then the Dometic CoolFun CK 40D HYBRID is just what you need: two cooling technologies, two connection options and a generous capacity of 38 litres.

Powerful compressor cooling on the 230-volt mains, thermoelectric cooling on a 12-volt vehicle battery – this hybrid cooling box can do both. It makes a reliable freezer for perishable deep-frozen food, chills the drinks for your garden party, and it will also keep your provisions nicely fresh on the journey to your holiday destination. On top of all this, it looks stylish with its shapely black/silver housing.

This is the world's first dual cooling system. The new Dometic CK40 Hybrid (formally Dometic B40) incorporates a powerful compressor for static use, as well as a thermoelectric cooling unit for use on the move with deep-freezing up to -15°C.

An amazing low cost solution for all your needs!

A compressor cooler for stationary and mobile use can be hard on your pocket. The new B40 won’t. Designed as a typical awning cooler it incorporates a powerful compressor as well as a thermoelectric cooling unit. The latter comes in when the cooler is connected the 12-volt car battery. This ensures that the cool chain is maintained during transport from home to the campsite. An amazing and low cost technical solution for an important comfort feature. In compressor mode the B40 provides cooling and deep-freezing up to –15°C, even at high ambient temperatures. The thermoelectric system achieves 20°C below the ambient temperature. About 40 litres capacity, sturdy cabinet, recessed grips on the sides.

THIS COOLBOX USES THERMOELECTRIC & COMPRESSOR TECHNOLOGY

What is the difference between the cooling technologies?
ABSORPTION COOLING
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Gas-powered cooling independent of electricity
  • Three way cooling – Gas, 12 volts DC or 230 volts AC
  • Silent operation
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

THERMOELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • 12 / 24 / 230 Volt
  • Independent of inclination
  • Lightweight and low-cost
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal. The heating or cooling capacity is further enhanced by heat exchangers and air fans. Ideal for low and medium cooling volumes.

COMPRESSOR TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Excellent cooling performance even at extreme ambient temperatures
  • Refrigeration and deep-freezing
  • 12 / 24 / 100 – 240 volts
  • Low power consumption – suitable for solar operation
  • Battery protection
  • Quiet operation with little vibration
  • Independent of inclination

The Technical Bit
Compressor units operate using a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit – the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. Here, the absorbed heat is released to the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.

DOMETIC CK40D Hybrid Cooler.

4 star review(4/5)
Dometic CK40D, Hybrid cooler, Well made, robust, good looking product, performs as described, freezes well, the only drawback for me is the weight, at 22kg empty its not exactly light, it would be difficult to lift and carry loaded.

... Up For 12 Hrs All Food Was Still Frozen Great Product

Forget The Rest, BUY THIS!

5 star review(5/5)
Ordered and delivered next day, awesome service. Out of the box, left for 30 minutes to settle, then on for 20 mins at lowest temp and there was ice inside. Put food/drinks in it ready for glamping weekend and let it chill for the night (just to make sure) at 2 degrees (with hindsight, it was way to cold) and the next morning it was at 2 degrees Celsius. 4 hours travelling in the van with it using 12v cigarette connection and the stuff was still cold. on-site camping power it still registered at 2 degrees C (was well surprised) beer was really really cold but it nearly froze the rest of the food (butter/lettuce). It runs really quiet, freezes really well, the handles could have a better grip as its not a light piece of equipment to carry, especially when loaded with foodstuffs. but it is amazing. running on 12v the display doesn't show the temp. but left it in the van during the day and overnight running on 12v (using leisure battery) and then moved it into the house the next day and it was still at 5 degrees. TLDR; was dubious, ordered then delivered nextday. froze beer, ruined butter and lettuce (too cold). to lazy to get it out of van, everything still cold next day.

A Really 'cool' Coolbox!

If you are looking for a duel fuel mobile fridge freezer then you need look no further. I am getting back into camping with my VW Transporter and have started getting my food and cooking equipment up together. I wanted something to keep food cool and fresh when mobile. I did some basic research into mobile powered coolboxes but could not really understand the large price difference from one to another. So I started off going with the lower cost end and purchased the 40 litre coolbkx from Halfords. This is a 240 v a and 12v dc thermoelectric device. It claims to hold the internal temperature at up to 18 degrees Celsius below the ambient temperature. In brief, it was rubbish! On full power it barely cooled the internal. On ECO mode it did nothing! The inside of the coolbox was the same as the room temperature. This was running on 240 v mains! I didn't bother with the 12v mode in the car as it could only get worse! So I returned the Halfords coolbox.
I wentered back to the drawing board and did some more research. I came across Dometic and Waeco as a brand with good reviews. I really wanted a device that would hold temperature irrespective of the external ambient temperature. I wanted a device with a thermostat and a temperature display and adjustable temperature in 1 degree Celsius increments. The Waeco CK 40D fitted the bill. So I took the price increase hit and ordered one. It arrived promptly and I was keen to test it. I plugged it into the 240 v mains in my house to test it's cooling. I set it to 5 degrees Celsius initially. When I powered it on the temperature gauge read 20 degrees. I expected to leave the unit over night to cool to 5 degrees. So I was delighted and amazed when 30 minutes later the unit was holding 5 degrees! It is very quick to cool in 240 v ac mode running the compressor. It holds the temperature accurately and consistently too. I varied from 0 degrees to 6 degrees and it was superb. In the car I switch to 12 v dc mode which runs a thermoe

Worth the money

We were concerned spending so much on a cooler but we couldn't be happier with the purchase. It has worked really well on a number of continent trips (high temps) and would recommend it. It is also really well put together.

Great service from Leisureshopdirect, received it the day after ordering it!

Excellent product... Capacity was far greater than visualised. Heavier than expected if weight limitations are your concern for touring. However it exceptional quality an excellent product!

A Serious Piece Of Kit

5 star review(5/5)
We used the Dometic B40 during a drive to the south of France and as a mains powered fridge when we arrived. It provides superb performance in AC compressor mode. In DC thermoelectric mode it keeps food cool even in very hot conditions although it seems to draw a lot of current (not measured precisely) in doing so. The standard of insulation is high, with the (acceptable) downside that it makes the cooler fairly large. It is also pretty heavy. Overall, a professional quality product.

I'd Easily Recommend This Product Every Day
