Hi tom just wondered if you can help I bought a 1993/4 bailey pageant imperial and the toilet wont work checked the fuse its ok changed the pump but cant get any power to it many thanks nigel.
It is likely that one of the switches that controls the pump is faulty. These are included in the toilet mechanism, our ref. 137147.
To remove firstly remove the centre part of the flush knob. At the bottom of the flush knob there is a cross headed screw that you must remove.
The mechanism is on the roof of the cassette chamber and is held in place by four screws. A mirror is handy to locate the screws. Drop the mechanism down and detach the electrical connection. Check the continuity of the two micro switches. One of the switches is 'made' when you operate the flush knob. The second switch is 'made' when the waste cassette is inserted and is to ensure that the toilet cannot be flushed when the cassette is removed.
Hi I have a Thetford C2 Cassette toilet. The flush has started playing up. It works fine if the flap is closed, but as soon as I open the flap, the flush stops working. Can you give me an idea of what I need to replace? Obviously the pump is still working, its just being a little choosey about when it is working Thanks Caroline Henn
The flush should work with the flap open or closed. The operation of the flap should not affect the pump. However, If this is a continuing problem you will need to replace the mechanism ref. 137147 or the flush knob ref. 130058 or both.
Hi Tom. I have a 2001 Swift Suntor 590RL motorhome with a Thetford Cassette Toilet - the handbook gives no other details. I have been using it for a year and the toilet valve blade does not close tight - it may be warped. But it does not hold the contents of the bowl before using the manual flush. This means liquids seep away and smells come through from the tank! Can I replace the blade?
You have a Thetford C2 toilet and your problem is more likely be due to a worn mechanism, ref 137147. You can check the blade operation by operating the knob actually on the waste tank. If this is faulty then you may do better to replace the tank and a 'Fresh up' kit is available, our ref 138194.

To remove the old mechanism you will need to -
1. Remove the centre cover from the operating knob.
2. With a long crosshead screwdriver remove the screw at the bottom of the hole in the centre of the knob.
3. Remove the waste tank. In the roof of the cassette chamber remove the four screws that hold the mechanism in place.
Just bought a ABI Caravan with a Thetford C2 toilet.(caravan 19 years old) - can't flush the toilet - have checked the fuse (which was a 5amp !)but appeared to be ok - could it be the safety sensor - where do I purchase one from and what would be the part number - or could it be the pump underneath the toilet roll holder - hope you can help - thank - Don
It is most likely to be the pump at fault. You need to check that you have 12 volts reaching the pump when you depress the flush knob. This can be checked by putting a voltmeter across the two terminals on the terminal block that you will find on the roof of the cassette compartment. It is often easier to remove the pump and cut the wires leading to the pump at a convenient point and checking the voltage across the two wires. If you have 12 volts when depressing the flush knob then it is certain that the pump is faulty.
If you do not have 12 volts available then you will need to remove the 'mechanism' situated on the roof of the cassette compartment and held by four screws plus one screw accessed through the centre of the flush knob. ( remove cap in centre of flush knob.) There are two switches in the mechanism which may be faulty.
Hi, I have a 1993 avondale and the cassette loo worked fine till i emptied it last. the knob you turn to shut/ open trap/blade wont turn and waste cannot be let out in to cassette. i have removed and re-inserted cassette several times but this makes no difference. any ideas?
First thing to do is to remove the cassette and manually operate knob on the cassette itself to ensure that the blade will open and close. If this is OK the you will need to check the 'mechanism' that is screwed to the ceiling of the cassette compartment. This is held by four screws plus one in the centre of the flush knob (accessed from inside the caravan)
Hi, I have a Thetford C2 toilet which has stopped working. I have changed the fuse although it hadn't blown. When I push down on the flush button there is no resistance and no water comes out of the pipe. Is this the pump or something else?
If the 3 amp fuse is OK then it it almost certain that the pump is faulty. The pump is beneath the toilet roll holder. You will need to undo a screw to remove the pump and then cut the electrical wire and remove the water hose. Strip back the wire and connect the pump directly across the battery to check operation.
If you purchase a new pump it comes complete with electrical connections and heat-shrink sleeving so that you can connect the new pump and fit the sleeving to seal from the water. Make sure you slide the sleeving onto the wire before making the electrical connection.
Alternatively the flush mechanism may be faulty and this is situated on the roof of the cassette chamber. To remove you remove the cap from the centre of the flush knob and with a long crosshead screwdriver undo the screw at the bottom of the cavity. The mechanism is also held by four screws in the roof of the cassette compartment and a small mirror is useful in locating these. The mechanism will drop down and can be removed by unplugging the electrical connector. Check that the mechanism is not broken in any way, particularly where the flush knob shaft connects, and check that the two switches operate correctly. One of the switches is 'made' by compressing the flush knob and the second switch is made when you insert the cassette to ensure that you cannot flush the toilet when the cassette has been removed. I have a cassette toilet in my 1989 talbot autoquest 270 but do not have any power going to it to flush ! the fuse is ok I removed the motor placed it on a battery thats ok , when turn the switch and hold it down the motor does not work ?
It is most likely to be a problem with one of the microswitches that is contained in the 'mechanism' assembly, our part 137147. To remove you need to undo the screw that is in the centre of the twist handle that opens the flap (remove plastic cap). You will need a long crosshead screwdriver. The mechanism is held in place by 4 screws in the roof of the cassette compartment. You will need a small mirror to locate easily. The mechanism will drop down and can be removed by unplugging the electric connection.

Prompt delivery, thanks. This was a straight swap for the 21 year old mechanism in our C2 Thetford. Unfortunately the small metal actuator arm for the flush switch was missing, causing some head scratching, but luckily I had kept the old one which was identical.
