How can I prevent the smell of my toilet? How do I use a mobile toilet properly?

First, and most important of all: use a Thetford waste-holding tank additive and use it according to the instructions.
Thetford’s waste-holding tank additives are highly effective toilet additives that offer the best performance for your Cassette and portable toilet.
1. Outstanding odour control
2. Waste is liquified for easier tank emptying
3. Reduces gas build-up
Empty your waste-holding tank every 4-5 days (depending on the waste-holding tank additive you use).
Next to this we recommend using Thetford Cassette Tank Cleaner 2 to 3 times a year on the waste-holding tank to thoroughly clean the inside of the tank and remove stubborn limescale.

Why do I have to use additives/Thetford toilet care products?

A mobile toilet is designed to work with additives, to make the temporary storage of toilet waste possible when no direct connection to sewage infrastructure is available. Use Thetford additives for an optimal performance of your Cassette and portable toilet and a longer lifespan in order to guarantee a carefree and comfortable holiday. Our waste-holding tank additives guarantee outstanding odour control, waste liquification for easier tank emptying and a reduction of gas build-up. We also offer Thetford Cassette Tank Cleaner: a periodical cleaning agent which you can use 2 to 3 times a year to thoroughly clean the inside of your waste-holding tank and remove stubborn limescale.

What is the best maintenance for my toilet?

What is the best maintenance for my Thetford toilet?

Use Thetford Seal Lubricant to keep the seals soft and pliable. It has been specially developed for mobile toilets and is absolutely safe to use.
Tip! Never use Vaseline or vegetable oil to lubricate the seals. This may cause leakage to your waste-holding tank.
The blade seal is a part of the toilet that is subject to wear. Depending on the extent and manner of servicing, after a certain period the seal will lose quality and must be replaced.

For what do I use: a) Aqua Kem Blue b) Aqua Kem Green c) Aqua Kem Blue Lavender?

Thetford Aqua Kem Blue, Aqua Kem Green and Aqua Kem Blue Lavender are all waste-holding tank products.
Specifications are:
Outstanding odour control
Waste is liquified for easier tank emptying
Reduces gas build-up
The difference between Thetford Aqua Kem Blue and Aqua Kem Blue Lavender is the fragrance. Thetford’s Aqua Kem Blue has a pine scent and Thetford’s Aqua Kem Blue Lavender a lavender one.
The difference between the blue waste-holding tank products and the green one is the environmental aspect. Thetford Aqua Kem Green is environmentally conscious and absolutely septic tank safe. A dosage of Aqua Kem Blue lasts up to 5 days, a dosage of Aqua Kem Green lasts up to 4 days.

When do I empty the waste holding tank?

You should empty the waste-holding tank when it’s full, when you start driving with your vehicle, when you store in for a longer period and at least every 4-5 days (depending on the waste-holding tank additive you use).

Can I use Aqua Rinse Plus in my central water tank?

No. The water of the central water tank is also used for tap water and shower water, so that’s why you should not add Thetford Aqua Rinse Plus in your central water tank.
You can use Thetford Aqua Rinse SPRAY instead. It’s an innovative rinse solution which is especially developed for toilets connected to the central water tank. You spray the inside of the toilet bowl with Thetford Aqua Rinse Spray before or after flushing the toilet. It coats the toilet bowl with a protective layer providing a smoother flush, it saves water as fewer flushes are required and it smells fresh long after spraying.

I get black bits in my flush water, what can I do?

WHY: For a fresh and clean start and optimal performance of Aqua Rinse Plus, clean your flush-water tank before the first use by following these instructions.

WHAT NEEDED: Household bleach + bucket/watering can

HOW:
1. Prepare a solution using 100ml household bleach per 10L of flush-water tank capacity. Prepare as much solution as needed to completely fill your flush-water tank.
2. Fill the flush-water tank completely with the prepared solution.
3. Leave it in for 24 hours.
4. Drain the flush-water tank by using the drain tube or flushing system.
5. Then fill the flush-water tank completely with fresh water and leave it in for 5 minutes.
6. Drain the flush-water tank again.
7. Repeat step 5+6 to make sure no bleach is left behind.

Note:
Do not use together with other products.
Exceeding the stated dose or recommended duration could damage your Thetford toilet

Can I use domestic bleach in the toilet?

No. It can damage the toilet. We only recommend using genuine Thetford toilet additives and cleaning products.

Well what can be said about some loo roll? If you’ve used it before then you know what it does, if not you’ve probably got dirty undies. Jokes aside this stuff trumps everyday stuff as it’s made for camping and breaks down much much better. I’ve got kids and they use toilet roll like it’s going out of fashion. Used house hold stuff once never again. Clogged up so much it’s unreal and believe it or not the smell is worse with normal tissue. This is always a must for my caravan now

It does the job but the important thing is that they disolve in the porta loo. If you use normal loo paper you are asking for trouble. Thee cost a little more but are well worth the lack of problems when emptying!

This toilet roll breaks down much better and faster then normal toilet roll.

I have emptied many a toilet cassette while camping and know from first hand experience that the regular stuff comes out clumped up as opposed to this which you can clearly see has started to break down much more. Yes it still spills out as a sludge but in the few hours it's had to break down i can only ask the question why aren't all toilet rolls being made like this?

If the rolls we all used on our houses broke down faster i guess the sewer system might breath a sigh of relief! Excuse the pun!! This might go some way towards counteracting the effect of wet wipes?

It's not cheap but when you think a toilet cassette can either be easy to empty or hard i know i'd rather it were easy every time! ;-)

Only got to use one of the four rolls before the toilet ended up on the skip. However, having emptied it three times I don't recall seeing paper stuck, so it must be doing its job. However, with the benefit of experience I'd have used standard paper.

Rating this as five star as I was informed by my good lady that this is far better toilet roll than what I normally get, as far as I was aware I had bought the same as I had always bought but on closer inspection of THE PACKAGING lol I did notice Thetford have renamed or possible released another toilet roll for use with chemical toilets that is actually soft !!!!

I've bought these for the first time to use with our portable camping toilet, so hope it does break down properly in the waste tank like they say, I really don`t want to be unblocking pipes at end of our holiday. They seem a little pricey, but if all goes well, I would give 5 stars for this item, just for having no hassle, time will tell, holidaying shortly. Thanks for a prompt delivery too.

These rolls are quite expensive, they will last a reasonable time, for us if used wisely, 2 adults camping, we used less than one pack over 10 days. But I have to say we had no issues at all with the disposal of waste material at the end of our holiday, which can only mean they are worth the extra money, i.e. no unblocking of pipes to do!!! All good for that reason alone. Thanks.

No blockages in our Saniflo macerator toilets since we started using this paper 6 months ago. Before that we suffered a blockage every 6 weeks or so. It is reasonably soft but obviously it is thin. I think the fact that it breaks down easily in water explains its success with our macerator lavatories.

A must for every caravanner. Not much more than regular toilet paper and degrades really quickly making the toilet easy to empty. 12 rolls is quite a lot to use in caravan so lasts along time.

Breaks down into much smaller pieces than regular toilet paper and stops the chemical toilet from clogging. I wouldn't say that it dissolves as much as they show on their promotional videos but it does the job!

Very good purchase, as caravanners we have many years of experience of porta potties but previously used normal toilet paper, however as the new porta potti was for the spare room in the loft as an 'emergency' loo, where we have no facilities I tried out these toilet rolls and found they were just as strong as the usual toilet paper, but seemed to dissolve a lot better as I found out when the porta potti was emptied into the utility loo! Very happy to have spent the extra money for this item, it certainly saved much swilling out with the tap water.

Our one and only indoor loo had to be out of commission while the bathroom was being renovated so we put a chemical loo in the shed. This loo paper was recommended as it needs to be thin so as not to block the portaloo. Even though thin, it is amazingly strong. Enough said!

Our boat has pump out showers, which go into a holding tank. This toilet paper is great as it does not 'clump' and flushes easily. Anyone who has had to clear out a blocked toilet will appreciate this! It also has the advantage of being considerably cheaper than most marine chandlers.
