Brake raises awareness of Road Safety Week

Posted by Freddy Morton

Groups of all kinds across the UK are being encouraged to get involved in Road Safety Week 2011, people with devices and accessories for your camper-van have been told.

Youth groups have been urged to take part in the event, which takes place from November 21st to 27th, in order to help reduce the number of young people losing their lives on the roads.

"Every day young people are being killed and maimed on our roads. Youth workers are brilliantly placed to help young people understand the simple steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe," said Brake's campaigns director Julie Townsend.

As part of Road Safety Week 2011, the charity hopes to raise awareness of the issue, as well as hold workshops and competitions.

Brake suggested that youth groups could organise a Bright Night, when everyone wears neon or reflective clothing, in order to raise money for the cause.

"In previous years hundreds of youth groups have taken part," Ms Townsend added.

Brake has also turned to nurseries, child carers and toddler groups to spread the word.
