Caravanner's neighbours save the day

Posted by Freddy Morton

Caravan owners who have invested in new taps or other accessories may hope to have neighbours as helpful as one of their peers in Norfolk.

Quick thinking residents in Pius Drive, Upwell, were praised for the tip-off they gave police as two men made off with a mobile home, the Wisbech Standard reported.

Thanks to their actions, officers were able to arrest 18-year-old Shaun Wheeler and his 23-year-old accomplice on January 6th - the same day they stole the tourer.

Mr Wheeler was jailed for six months for the theft and two months for driving while disqualified, with both sentences to be carried out concurrently in a young offender's institution.

His partner in crime escaped with a 12-month community order and 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Norfolk Police inspector Mick Bates was reported as saying: "Cases such as this highlight the importance of the timing and the quality of the information we receive from the public."

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News has revealed that Gelferwood Country Park owner Peter Chadwick has won the right to park two static caravans on his greenbelt site following a planning appeal.
