£850m set to help improve UK roads

Posted by Freddy Morton

Drivers and those with a Dometic caravan fridge could benefit from more than £850 million worth of transport schemes, it has been announced.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has revealed that £586 million in funding will be given to 21 local authority projects to improve the roads and other transport infrastructure across the country.

Furthermore, councils were asked to submit their best bids in September which has led to £500 million being shaved off the amount now proposed by the DfT.

Transport secretary Justine Greening said: "Almost all journeys begin and end on local authority networks, which provide the crucial links that allow people and businesses to prosper."

Although many schemes will get the go-ahead through the allocation of funding, other may face a longer wait to get started until money for the projects becomes available.

The DfT recently launched a challenge for people to come forward with ideas on how to tackle the del congestion on the A14 in East Anglia.
