A9 boasts UK's longest delays

Posted by Freddy Morton

Owners of Waeco caravan fridges have been told that the A9 is definitely a road to avoid.

The major road which runs from Edinburgh, through the centre of Scotland and via Inverness was named in the top ten jams on four occasions in March.

Tom Tom UK released the figures, which revealed that the A9's worst delay was on Sunday March 13th, during which both sides of the carriageway endured traffic jams of up to 20 miles.

It found that the same stretch of road near Aviemore and Inverness also experienced delays on Thursday March 10th while another 19.5 mile delay was recorded between Kingussie and Calvine the following day.

Congestion on the road was only beaten by jams on the M25, a road notorious for delays, with the worst tailback for March coming in at 30.3 miles.

Recently, the Cambrian News reported that some caravan owners in the West Country were considering moving camp sites as they are becoming increasingly infuriated by jams on the M5.
