Brisk walking 'good for health', Ramblers claim

Posted by Linda Davidson

People with motorhomes and Reich caravan taps have been advised to consider a brisk walk or hike as part of their next holiday routine, as the popular activity can have health benefits.

Maria Castellina, spokeswoman for the Ramblers, said: "All walking is beneficial, but for the greatest benefits to heart, lungs and blood pressure, brisk is best."

She added that for those who find the prospect of stepping out on the roads daunting or unappealing, the Ramblers holds a number of events across the country which caravanners, holidaymakers and other people can join in order to enjoy a social environment along with their exercise.

Walking also has obvious practical applications in daily life, making it an especially convenient form of exercise, Ms Castellina added.

US researchers from the Boston Medical Centre recently suggested that the speed at which an individual walks can help predict the possibility of their developing dementia later in life.
