Brits 'considering domestic holiday'

Posted by Greg Throughton

Some British holidaymakers may be considering investing in a motorhome with Whale caravan taps and a 12v TV after research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance suggested 55 per cent of people in the UK are planning a staycation this year.

Despite these relatively modest plans, the company suggests a total of £22.1 billion could be spent on getaways throughout 2012.

David Barrett, Sainsbury's travel insurance manager, said it was likely people would attempt to adhere to fairly strict budgetary restraints this year but still manage to get a holiday.

The data shows that a third of people planning a domestic break will enjoy a camping or caravanning holiday.

"It appears that more people will delay booking their holiday this year, presumably hoping to secure a better deal and the majority of us are aiming to reduce our spending money too," added Mr Barrett.

People taking a holiday in the UK could consider visiting a National Trail, long-distance routes for walking and cycling through Britain. The National Trust recommends the Thames Path and the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
