Brits want shorter breaks, claims expert

Posted by Linda Davidson

People with an interest in camper-van apparatus and accessories have been advised that more Brits are opting for shorter breaks.

William Wake, outdoor programme coordinator with the National Trust, said that due to the current climate, people are choosing to take short holidays in the UK rather than more conventional longer breaks abroad.

"Now the economic situation is very uncertain for people, and people are looking to plan a holiday a little bit later and not go away for the traditional two weeks, so they are looking to have days out rather than a two week holiday away," he explained.

There is a huge amount to explore with the National Trust in the UK, Mr Wake added, with around 200 properties across the country and more in and around London.

He suggested that Studland in Dorset is a popular location, as are many of its London attractions.

David Allen, head of Scotland at People 1st, recently suggested that upcoming events in the UK and Scotland such as the Scottish Homecoming and the Olympics should act like a catalyst to improve the tourism industry.
