Caravan plan in Kerry given green light

Posted by Freddy Morton

People with motorhomes and Propex caravan water heaters who are considering a trip to Ireland could consider the coast of Kerry as a destination, after plans to develop a camping and caravan park near Kenmare Bay were given the go-ahead.

Councillors voted the scheme through unanimously, despite some concerns over increased traffic being raised by residents.

Planning permission for the park, near the Dromquinna manor house, required a contravention of the county's usual planning laws, reports the Irish Times.

Generally caravans are not allowed near the coastline, but an exception has been made for this project.

Kerry County Council director of planning Michael McMahon said the objectors' opinions had been taken into account and amendments have been made to the development plan to reflect them.

Councillors praised the employment opportunities the project will bring to the picturesque area.

Visitors to Kenmare Bay will have a variety of attractions to choose from, including golf courses, adventure centres and the chance to see seals along the Kerry coastline.
