Caravanners urged to get off the beaten track

South-west England has a number of hidden gems which caravan rooflights owners can explore on their next holiday, according to Lonely Planet.

Oliver Berry, Lonely Planet author of Devon, Cornwall and Southwest England, which was published last month, said that the south-west is a very diverse place offering visitors a wide range of events and attractions.

He said: "Some of my favourite ones are things like fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, you can turn up and take a tour and pick up your own ammonites and take it home like a unique souvenir."

Mr Berry also recommended a wild food school in western Cornwall which takes visitors along to coast to forage for your own food, which they can then cook up.

"Caving, kayaking, walking through really quiet national parks like Exmoor, compared to Dartmoor, far less well known. There's so much to discover really," the author stated.

The Lonely Planet guide also said that the area is a food lovers' heaven, offering a variety of world class cuisines and local produce.
