Caravanners urged to get out for a walk during the festive period

Caravan refrigeration owners have been urged to wrap up warm and get out for a walk during their latest caravan holiday.

The National Trust has claimed that walking in the UK countryside is a great way of improving wellbeing during the festive period.

Research from the charity has found that 80 per cent of the happiest people have a strong connection with the great outdoors and nature.

Mark Harold, National Trust director for the south-west, said: "Christmas is that one time of the year when the whole nation wraps up and goes for a walk with friends and family."

Of the people polled by the organisation, nine per cent said they were unhappy, while 43 per cent revealed they are content with their current circumstances.

Walking can also be a great way of shedding some of the excess pounds put on over the festive period as UK walking charity, Ramblers, recently revealed that walking just one mile can burn around 100 calories.
