Driving too fast is a common caravanning mistake

Posted by Linda Davidson

Owners of campervan devices and accessories need to be careful not to drive too fast when towing a caravan.

Martin Spencer, technical manager for the Caravan Club, said that despite the reputation caravan owners have for holding up traffic, usually the most common mistake they make is to put their foot down.

"The most common mistake [with driving] is, ironically, while [caravanners] get a certain degree of flack from other drivers for always driving too slowly, I would say actually going too fast is much more of a practical problem," he explained.

He said another misconception is that beginners tend to make the most mistakes, however, they are more careful and it is experienced caravanners that are more likely to load incorrectly and drive at an unsafe speed.

New research published by the Motor Insurance Database identified Birmingham's Bordesley as the UK hotspot for uninsured drivers, closely followed by the West Midlands and West Yorkshire.
