Posted by Freddy Morton

Drivers and those who use caravan accessories like the 12v television may have invested in a new car last month, but market figures show that demand for vehicles is down.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) suggested that although the automotive industry has been experiencing a promising year in the production and sale of new vehicles, November saw demand drop by 4.7 per cent to 134,027 units in total.

However, demand for fuel-efficient cars stayedsteady and the overall sales figures remained around 5,000 units above expectations.

Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said that in the past ten years, the amount of eco-friendly cars sold has risen by 29.3 per cent.

He added: "While the November new car market saw a 4.2 per cent dip, the fuel efficiency of new models broke all records with the average new car achieving 52.5mpg."

The SMMT recently reported that the auto industry as a whole keeping up to date with its targets to reduce carbon emissions - a positive result for the aim of a reduced carbon footprint.
