Full service history could add 26% to car value

Posted by Freddy Morton

Truma caravan water heater owners have been urged to ensure their service history is up to date.

Research by Kwik Fit revealed that a huge amount of value is attached to a full service history (FSH), with the complete record adding around 26 per cent to the price of the car.

Furthermore, lack of a history can put off as much as a third of buyers.

With the average used car selling for £5,500, the findings suggested that an FSH could be worth up to £1,500, the equivalent to over £10 billion to the used car market annually.

However, those with just a few stamps missing have been advised that a partial service history is preferable to none at all, particularly if they are recent.

"It's not just about the end value though, motorists who get their car serviced according to the manufacturer's recommendations will be rewarded with greater efficiency, better performance and lower on-going running costs," said David White, customer services director at Kwik Fit.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Advanced Motorists revealed that the first year of driving could cost young people as much as £12,000.
