MyKey enourages drivers to be safe behind the wheel

Posted by Linda Davidson

Drivers and owners of Truma caravan water heaters are now able to control speed, audio and mobile phone usage if they drive a Ford vehicle.

A new technology, MyKey, uses Bluetooth to make limits on car settings including audio volume, speed restrictions and the newest feature of automatically diverting calls to voicemail and hiding new text messages.

Ford announced that the new system will help to make drivers safer and free from unnecessary distractions whilst behind the wheel and prevent accidents on busy roads.

The 'do not disturb' feature is designed to help adult drivers control what young road users do whilst in the car but can also ensure the safety of all car users.

Peter Patzelt, the manufacturer's system architect for MyKey, said: "MyKey can give parents peace of mind when they hand car keys over to their kids and 'do not disturb' enables parents to control another risk factor when their child gets behind the wheel."

Text messaging and using a mobile phone to make calls were made illegal in 2009 in a bid to reduce phone-related accidents on roads and encourage alertness of drivers.
