NCC: Insure your caravan year round

Posted by Greg Throughton

People with equipment and accessories for your camper-van still ought to insure their caravan in the winter months when it is off the road.

A spokeswoman at the National Caravan Council (NCC) said that even though caravans do not come under the same road insurance requirements as motorhomes and cars, it is still better to have year-round cover.

She explained that the Caravan Safety and Security Group (CSSG), which is a joint venture between the NCC, the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club, recommends this policy as then owners have cover in the event of theft or damage.

"Many owners choose to place their caravan or motorhome in a storage facility when it is not in use. Not only does this mean the vehicle is out of the way, but this can be looked upon favourably by insurers who may even provide generous discounts on the policy premium," she added.

Meanwhile the British Insurance Brokers' Association urged people not to skimp on cover by just taking out the cheapest policy.
