New passport for caravan holidays

Posted by Linda Davidson.

Caravan rooflights owners who enjoy taking overseas caravan holidays will like to know that the UK passport has undergone a significant redesign.

The new passport, unveiled by the Identity and Passport Service (IPS), uniquely combines a historic part of the UK's culture – images of iconic places – and sophisticated security technology to deliver a passport fit for the 21st century.

Available from this October, the passport's pages will feature representations of sites such as the White Cliffs of Dover, Ben Nevis, and the Giant's Causeway.

Sarah Rapson, chief executive of the IPS, said: "The new passport features a host of scenes from across the UK.

"Through its combination of physical and electronic security features, the UK passport remains one of the most secure and trusted documents in the world, meeting rigorous international standards."

Advanced security measures include moving the microchip – in which holder's private details are stored – inside the passport, so it is no longer visible, a replicate image of the holder printed on the "observations" page, and a transparent suit featuring security holograms, all designed to safeguard personal information.

Since the launch of the first UK passport in 1915, 15 different versions have been issued.
