Ramblers call for new footpath on Chilton Street

Posted by Linda Davidson

People with devices and accessories for your caravan like 12v televisions may be among those calling on the Suffolk district council to deal with a gap in the in the footpath network at Chilton Street, in the town of Clare.

The group explained that a gap between Footpath No 1 and Footpath No 14 means walkers need to turn back and retrace their steps, having to walk along the "treacherous" B1063.

At the moment, the road is the only means of walking from Chilton Street to Poslingford or Hundon. Local rambler Norman Jennings described the route as "hellishly dangerous".

He added that the council has the right to install new public footpaths but is reluctant to implement them.

"If the council care about the safety of walkers and motorists and about getting people out of their cars, they will surely make the necessary order," added the rambler.

A popular holiday destination, Suffolk has several impressive caravan sites, including the Beach View Caravan Park, which offers easy access to a number of tourist attractions along the county's coast.
