Staycationers not taking out insurance

Posted by Linda Davidson

Only a fifth of people who are planning on taking a holiday in the UK would take out travel insurance, those with Vaillant caravan water heaters were told.

The research from comparison site moneysupermarket.com, found that 58 per cent of staycationers would take a trip without taking out travel insurance.

Just 35 per cent of people holidaying within Britain would buy a cover for the break, although this increased to 56 per cent when people travelled to the Channel Islands.

"It may seem a waste of time having travel insurance for holidays within the UK, but you can still be caught out by events beyond your control," said Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com.

"It is also important not to get caught out when travelling to the Channel Isles, as you do not get free NHS care on the islands," he warned.

An annual report of the British Hospitality Association recently revealed that the high levels of VAT in the UK could be damaging to the tourism industry.
