Staycationers 'still need insurance'

Posted by Linda Davidson

Brits, including those with camper van accessories and devices , have been urged to take out travel insurance for their holiday, even if they are staying in the UK.

Stuart Bensusan, co-founder and head of sales for Essential Travel, said that even when taking a staycation, travel insurance is important.

He explained that there is a common misconception that travel insurance is medical and that by staying in the UK they can use the NHS, but there is more to it than that, including cover for cancellation and lost baggage.

"You can spend the same amount in the UK booking holidays as you can if you're going abroad. You can cover against cancellation and you can have your baggage stolen or lost in transit, so you need to make sure you have that covered," Mr Bensusan said.

His comments follow research from Essential Travel, which revealed that many people do not have adequate travel cover for their holiday, with 40 per cent of Brits taking part in water sports without checking their insurance.
