Stop Start drivers are a growing threat

Posted by Freddy Morton

AXA has unveiled a growing threat on Britain's roads to Waeco caravan fridge owners.

The motor insurer suggested that a new "sub-class" of road users, dubbed 'Stop Start Drivers', are an emerging hazard to themselves and others on the road.

They are motorists aged between 17 and 29 who rarely drive and often have gaps of several years between road trips, so when they do get behind the wheel they lack confidence, have forgotten crucial aspects of the Highway Code and are more likely to cause an accident.

Research from the company revealed to caravanners that when asked to re-sit their test only one in five Stop Start Drivers could drive to a standard that would have passed, compared to 100 per cent of newly-passed motorists.

"Among the under-30s, you have some very good drivers but there are clearly issues with those who rarely drive. Our research shows that experience really does count at all ages," said Sarah Vaughan, AXA's motor director.

In other news, motorists in Telford are being invited to a road safety course organised by a local advanced motorist group.
