Take a walk on the wild side in Northumberland

Posted by Freddy Morton

Caravan taps owners looking for an active walking holiday may want to take a trip to Northumberland and explore the unspoilt countryside and coastline that the region is famous for.

The Northumberland National Park is the least populated park in the UK so it provides an ideal escape from the stresses of the build up to the festive period.

Visit North East England believes that autumn is the perfect time to head to the Farne Islands off the Nothumberland coast, where caravan taps owners may be lucky enough to see grey seal pups in the largest seal colony in the UK.

Other wildlife in the area includes the largest remaining stronghold for the red squirrel at Kielder Water & Forest Park and a unique herd of 90 wild cattle at Chillingham, the only remaining group in the world.

Visitors to Northumberland will also have access to some of the best hiking routes in the UK and may be lucky enough to spot one of the endangered Red Kites which were reintroduced into the area in 2004.
