Take care in summer downpours

Posted by Freddy Morton

Motorists with Dometic caravan fridges have been warned to be prepared for wet conditions on the road this summer.

Simon Elstow, head of training at IAM Drive & Survive, has advised drivers on how to deal with sudden heavy showers, which have been forecast following a long period of dry weather.

He said that visibility will be reduced and stopping distances will increase in heavy downpours, so drivers need to slow down and allow twice as much time as usual to stop.

Ensuring that tyres have plenty of tread for optimum grip is also advised.

"Rain after a long period of dry weather makes the road surface extremely slippery. A combination of oil, loose gravel and dried rubber all make conditions more dangerous," Mr Elstow explained.

Meanwhile, Saab has revealed that the most popular family car game for long journeys is Backseat Face Snap in its campaign to bring back family time.
