Take your time on long journeys, expert states

Posted by Greg Throughton

People who own a Thetford caravan fridge should take care when making long journeys, according to one expert.

A representative of the Camping and Caravanning Club suggested the first thing that motorhome owners should check for is the legal requirements for towing a caravan.

The weight and overall height and size of the vehicle must also be considered and driving licences amended if they do not fit the correct criteria.

Jon Dale, public relations manager at the club, which owns and manages 4,000 campsites in the UK and overseas, advised: "Make sure you're legal to tow - pay attention to the weight of the unit you're towing and ensure it is distributed accordingly."

He added that giving plenty of time for a journey will make it as pleasurable as possible and avoid the need to rush to a destination.

The club has seen a rise in the number of people taking caravanning holidays, with more and more people opting for cheaper holidays in Britain rather than those abroad, Mr Dale added.
