Tiverton 'ideal for a bike ride'

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan taps owners who spend time caravanning around England may want to take a trip to Tiverton for a perfect cycling holiday.

A cycle path alongside the Great Western Canal has been revealed as the perfect place for a family bike ride by the Express & Echo.

The canal ceased to operate as a commercial waterway in 1925 and slowly began to fall into disrepair, but was rescued in 1971 when it was taken on as a restoration project.

Recognised as a local nature reserve in 2005 the park has become a beautiful and tranquil place, perfect for caravanners to indulge in a Sunday excursion on the bike.

"It is not the place for sprinting practice as significant numbers of walkers use the path, but as you get further afield it does become quieter," the article advised.

The passing scenery and the ever changing panorama offer cyclists a fantastic view and with a few cafes and pubs along the route there are plenty of places to rest and re-energise for the next leg of the journey.

This year marks the 15th of the National Cycle Network, with events taking place across the UK to mark the occasion.
