Tributes paid to 'caravan king'

Posted by Freddy Morton.

Caravan refrigeration owners will be interested to hear that the life of one of Lincolnshire's most successful businessmen has been celebrated after his passing.

John Woodward, credited with changing the caravan landscape on the region's coast, died on Sunday. He was chairman and managing director of Blue Anchor Leisure, thisislincolnshire.co.uk reported.

A self made multi-millionaire, Mr Woodward was named in the 2010 Sunday Times rich list as possessing a personal wealth of £330 million. And he received an OBE for his contribution to tourism in 2005.

And since the news broke tributes have been rolling in.

Lincolnshire councillor Colin Davie told the newspaper: "John was a pioneer and a one-off. The Lincolnshire coast we have today carries his fingerprints and in many parts of it, his vision.

"Like Billy Butlin before him, he has translated his ideas into a living example and with it a profitable business model that I am sure will continue despite his passing."

Many others spoke about how Mr Woodward had transformed the caravan industry in Lincolnshire.

The country is still a flourishing spot for caravan sites. This month the Lifestyle Living Group acquired three caravan parks for £3 million.
