Tyre checks 'help improve safety'

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan rooflights owners need to keep an eye on the condition of their tyres, according to RoadSafe.

RoadSafe highlighted that poor tyres have an impact on the driver's ability to control the car which is very important when towing a caravan.

The organisation said that drivers must remember to check their tyres correctly ensuring that tyre tread depth and pressure is checked once a month.

Director of RoadSafe, Adrian Walsh, said: "Tyres are a vital part of your car. You cannot brake, steer or accelerate properly when they are worn or underinflated."

Motorists caught driving with bad tyres face a fine of anything up to £2,500 as well as the possibility of receiving three points on their licence per tyre meaning four tyres in a poor condition could cause a driver to lose their licence.

Caravan rooflights owners who check their tyres regularly and keep them in good condition will also benefit from better fuel consumption and improved control of their vehicle.
