Winter tyres 'safer for difficult conditions'

Posted by Linda Davidson

People with van tools and accessories such as Morco caravan water heaters should consider adding winter tyres to their list of vehicle modifications in order to remain safe over the colder months, a retailer has suggested.

A survey from European tyre providers Delticom found many motorists are insufficiently aware of the potential positives stemming from the use of winter tyres.

Despite this, a majority of people surveyed claimed to value mobility very highly, an important issue when travelling with a caravan in tow on roads which may not be ideal for the purpose.

Seasonal tyres "do not harden at low temperatures and that means they give much better grip on the road and the ability to stop in a shorter distance," said a spokesperson from Delticom.

This means the specialised grip can be helpful in icy or wet conditions as well as snowy ones.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists advises drivers to check their route before setting off if the weather is potentially hazardous.
