Work to begin on Bath walking and cycle route

Posted by Freddy Morton

Caravan taps owners who have a caravan holiday planned in the Bath area will be delighted to hear that work is set to begin improving a walking and cycle route.

The improvements are designed to make the route more accessible in all conditions, which is good news for those who like to get out and about while on a caravan holiday.

Linear Park is located in the south of the city and the improvements, which include opening two former railway tunnels to provide a link from Midford into the city, is part of Sustrans' Connect2 project in Bath.

The project is being funded by the Bath and North East Somerset Council as well as a grant from the BIG Lottery fund, after £50 million was awarded to Sustrans to develop walking and cycling routes across the UK.

Cllr Roger Symonds, chair of the Two Tunnels Steering Group, said: "By improving the Linear Park route, people are going to be able to use it all year round, in all weather conditions, which will make it much easier for walkers and cyclists to get about."

Sustrans recently suggested that Londoners facing increases in public transport fares should consider walking or cycling to combat the rises.
