Question

How do you remove a fridge from a caravan for servicing ?

Answer

Both Dometic and Thetford fridges are secured by 4 screws through the side walls which are accessed from inside the fridge. Before pulling the fridge forward remove the vents from the outside wall and isolate the gas, 12 volt and 230volt supplies. On some Dometic fridges the gas connection is at the rear and should be undone before the fridge is moved. On many Dometic fridges the gas connection is on the top and will need to be undone as the fridge is pulled forward.
The gas connection to the Thetford fridges is normally at the back but follow the gas feed pipe and disconnect at a convenient point.
When pulling the fridges forward be sure not to stretch any cables and disconnect the cables from the fridge before pulling the fridge completely from its housing. Make sure that you mark the cables so that they can be re-connected correctly.
NOTE with the Thetford fridges there is a foam rubber seal between the fridge and the housing. This must be replaced when refitting, to ensure that exhaust fumes do not enter the living area of the caravan.
