Brussels named as Europe's most congested city

People with Reich caravan taps may want to avoid taking a trip to Brussels, if new statistics are anything to go by.

A traffic study by TomTom has revealed that the Belgian capital remains the most congested city in Europe.

Furthermore, the metropolis is getting worse, with the report highlighting a 1.2 per cent increase in traffic in the city since 2010.

However, UK towns have not fared much better. Of the 50 most congested cities in Europe, 16 are places in Britain, making it the most gridlocked country in the continent.

London ranked third, despite a 0.2 per cent reduction in traffic, while Edinburgh and Manchester both featured in the top ten.

But six of Europe's most congested cities have significantly reduced traffic in the last year, with Dublin cutting jams by a staggering 9.7 per cent since 2010.

Last year, a study by INRIX revealed that at peak times, drivers in Brussels waste an average of 65 hours a year in traffic jams, the Wall Street Journal reported.
