Caravan water heaters can help holidaymakers go green

Posted by Linda Davidson

Motorhome owners have been urged make use of their caravan water heaters and have a short shower in the mornings to improve their green credentials.

Research conducted by ABTA and the Travel Foundation shows that more people than ever are taking steps to reduce their impact on the environment when at home, but that almost half fail to keep this up when they go on vacation.

As a result, Britons are being urged to do three simple things when they go on their travels in order to make holidays greener.

Options to choose from include using local markets to shop for souvenirs, re-using towels and turning off air conditioning when it is not required.

Caravan owners could also use their water heaters to have a shower instead of a bath, and thereby cut down on water wastage.

"From a very early age children are learning about the environment in school and how to be greener and they are often the ones who are nagging their mums and dads to turn off the lights when they're not needed or to turn off the tap whilst they're brushing their teeth," commented Sue Hurdle from the Travel Foundation.

"We now want them to replicate their green habits when they go on holiday."

Meanwhile, confused.com has introduced a new caravan insurance comparison tool in response to increasing caravan sales prompted by the staycation trend.
