Get winter tyres fitted from October to March, expert says

Drivers and those who own a Vaillant caravan water heater should prepare their vehicles for winter weather by installing tyres with deeper tread, one expert has suggested.

According to TyreSafe, a company specialising in seasonal tyres, wet and icy roads can cause a serious hazard to drivers and other road users but can be made less risky by the use of properly fitted winter tyres.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of the company, said: "Cold, damp roads can be just as hazardous and should be treated with the utmost respect. Fitting winter tyres is the safest option as they provide extra grip in these types of conditions."

He added that car owners should get winter tyres fitted from October to March each year to ensure that they are kept safe from slipping on carriageways.

Mr Jackson's comments come as the Met Office released a severe weather warning for heavy rain and snowfall in the northern regions of England and most of Scotland, which has already seen flooding and snowy conditions this season.
