Hi, I have a truma gas fire in my swift challenger van that ignites ok but continues making a clicking noise long after the fire has been turned off... do you know what could be the possible cause? Also I am not getting any gas to the cooker or hob, despite having full gas bottles and the manifold switch on...
When you depress the knob to ignite the fire, a microswitch in the gas valve is 'made' and initiates the operation of the electronic igniter. The contacts of the microswitch should 'break' when the fire is turned off. It may be that contacts of the m....

I have an RM7041L DOMETIC 3 WAY FRIDGE that works well on electric and 12 v but when you switch to the gas position it should automatically light but the peso/auto light is not making a noise to light the gas - question is there a fuse? Or any reason why it is not lighting?
If the fridge was in our workshop we would change the burner control device initially. This is our part 138640. and is the part that controls the gas burner operation.....

Hello. We have a customer with a Swift caravan. The Hartal door lock is seized as you have explained. We need a replacement right-hand lock. Does this come with the lock assembled?
Yes, it does come with barrel and keys. The right hand lock is our part 136287. Please note that if when standing outside the door hinges are on the left then you need a left hand lock.....

hi i have an adria t caravan model no. 500b 1991.. battery fully charged but when nit connected to an on site hook up i have no power. .checked trip box and everything is fine..could it be a fuse and if so where would it be located?
Unsure where fuses are located on this model of caravan. However there should be an in-line fuse between the battery positive and the transformer charger unit. ....

hi tom, I have a 1997 sterling europa caravan fitted with a carver 2 water heater the system intermittently activates the pump when the system is not in use, and the water leaks from around the vent on the outside of the van is this due to a failure of a part and can i replace this.
You clearly have a leak at one of the components which is causing the water pump to cut in as the pressure drops. It is most likely to be the safety valve that is the problem, our part 119477. If you undo the four screws that secure the flue cover t....

I have a new van with a trumatic s5002 heater that appears never to have been used. I have tried to start it using the ignition button but it wont fire up. Am i doing anything wrong? no instructions came with it.
If you have a manual ignition version you have a larger knob which you must depress whilst operating the smaller piezo ignition button. It is more likely that you have a fire with automatic ignition and you need an AA battery to operate the igniter. ....

Re your article on Hartal door locks. This is my feedback. Dismantled the lock, the lock spindle needed to be pressed out rather than fall out. I found that there were still some lands of sprue from the molding on the barrel- removed them with some emery paper, also measured the diameter of the spindle - found that it had a slight taper which as it was pushed in and locked with the circlip made it very hard to move. Filed the hole and it now turns easily. Looks like a manufacturing problem. Seems very widespread as well.
As you say, this problem of very stiff locking mechanism is fairly widespread with the Hartal locks. When new they work fine but for some reason the plastic must expand with use. Filing out the hole does relieve the problem.....

On my Thetford N150 Fridge freezer The blue light is flashing and its showing a spanner and code 1 error .I have read through all the bits and pieces that you have written and taken the lid off the power board and changed the 5amp fuse which was not blown and the 20amp which was also not blown but the blue light still flashes on the mains only. Any idees of what it might be. Thanks Gordon
Code 1 indicates that there is insufficient voltage reaching the 230 volt heater. This voltage must be between 210 and 230 volts. The problem could be that your supply voltage is insufficient for some reason. If this is OK and the 5 amp fuse is inta....

I have a Truma S3002p. It goes out, but at no particular time or pattern. have sat and closely watched the blue flame stop, if i press the piezo quick enough it relights as the thermocouple is holding the valve open. i am Gas safe LPG etc and have thrown new parts at it, valve, thermocouple, burner, 30mb jets, electrode, the flue and cowl are spotless. The alloy casting was washed out with gallons of water, no sign of a blockage, gas pipe purged (aggressively) and of course a full bottle, It is a second-hand swift 2008 sportstyle 2. only had it 3 weeks but seems so very much more. please HELP !
There appears to be gas starvation at certain times. If you have replaced the gas valve then that is probably OK .It appears that the only thing that you have not replaced is the regulator and this may be giving an uneven supply due to gas oil contam....

1. I think we have a problem with our Gas Regulator part number TRuma 0129411. I see from other queries a problem with residues blocking the regulator is a regular problem. We have tried two different gas bottles we know have gas in, and no gas is getting through to appliances, hence we think the regulator. Does this seem correct. 2. Buying a new one - we cannot find this part number on the TRuma web-site or yours. Are the new replacements all with an elbow? 3. Should one fit a filter as well?
The replacement regulator is either part 127224 for 8mm diameter outlet piping or 127225 for 10mm diameter outlet piping. These are complete with an elbow at the inlet. A filter is a good idea but expensive. It will prevent further failures of the r....

If I switch the power to the pump off and on again it seems to start immediately - could it be a problem with the pressure switch on the pump do you think?
It sounds as if the pressure switch is being a little temperamental. Alternatively you may have a restriction in the pipework between the pump and the tap which means that the drop in system pressure, when opening the tap, is not being registered imm....

The burner in the Truma fire has the pilot burner at one end. When you increase the control dial setting then the remainder of the burner will ignite and this should be evident when viewed through the small window. If this is not happening then eithe....

The electric heater on the Truma Ultrastore water heater is reliant at all on the 12 volt supply. You may therefore have a faulty MCB in your consumer unit. Alternatively check the in-line connector in the wire leading to the electric element to make....

I have a problem with the electrics on my Swift Conqueror and if possible am seeking your comments please. There seems to be two related issues, one with the NE183-T56 in conjunction with a Thetford N112 fridge. NE183-T56 with NE189 R1 With no vehicle connected all functions are OK. Panel show voltage 13.8 for van, zero for car which is correct. If car is selected on the NE183 this causes the ALKO ATC to engage although no car is connected. Therefore, in some way the NE189 must be feeding current into the car-live circuits. Also panel then shows voltage for two batteries, van 13.6, car 13.9 although only the van battery is present! After several minutes both panel lights (green & red) flash in unison. Pressing van button causes a return a normal display. Normally when the vehicle is connected and running the NE183 switches off. Connecting the vehicle now makes no difference. The two relays in the NE189 appear to be solder-fit so presumably if faulty the panel has to be replaced. Thetford N112 Fridge Other than via earth, is there any interaction with the NE183? Obviously there is a connection with the NE189 because of the fuse elements. Can a relay fault back-feed into the fridge circuit? The fridge has a completely blank display (no current) and has no response to the on/off switch regardless whether the NE183 is on or off. There is constant ticking which sounds like the igniter. Although not turned on the ticking causes the LED awning light to flash in unison. Turning on the light causes the flashing to stop (light becomes constant) although ticking continues. This really foxes me because with the switch turned off the only cable to the light is the earth! The low-voltage connector to the fridge show 13,7-volts but even with no car connected the heavy duty 12-volt circuit shows 0.4-volts. Any comments or advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. Best regards, Jim Slocombe
hi Jim, The first thing i would try would be to disconnect the 12v multi connector to the fridge which has both the high and low current supplies within it. Then try the panel operation to see if the fault is still present. If it has cured the fault ....

Recently, after driving our 2003 Compass Avantgarde 400RL the voltage from the leisure battery was low to non-existent - the pump runs slow and the boiler won't stay on. The first time we were aware of this we struggled with dim lights for the evening but in the morning all was ok again. I presume this means that the battery is not at fault. However the next time we drove somewhere the same thing happened. Any ideas?
It appears that the leisure battery is being drained whilst you are driving and this points to an alternator or relay fault associated with the engine. If you were hooked up to the mains electric supply when you were parked then it is likely that the....

Hi I have a Elddis Vogue Shamal about 1999 model I believe. I have a mains power source to hand. I've just noticed if I turn off the mains power, and leave the switch to caravan battery I have no power. The battery is almost new and checked is holding a charge over 12 v. When I turn the mains on it doesn't register any increase, ie isn't charging. I have internal caravan lights only on mains. I have no fridge (12v), no TV ariel. The fuse at the battery end is good. We don't seem to have a 12v fuse box, it all seems to go into the breaker unit. There are no obvious loose connections, and the state of the wiring seems ok. I don't seem to be getting any 12 v power to the switches ie the caravan/car battery switch. I can only think that something has gone in the Zig charger, but we still get mains power through it. Any suggestions please.
There should be a battery fuse that is normally situated close to the battery. There should also be a fuse box for the 12 volt system. If all fuses are OK then it indicates a problem with the Zig charger. Disconnect the battery terminals and with a....

hi, i have a thetford 200CWE in my elddis crusader 2008, 1st changed the switch just 6 months ago due to it not working at all. that sorted a few weeks ago the flush was intermittent and slow/reduced water flow, the old pump was removed and a new pump fitted but when the switch is activated there is nothing only the click of the switch. the pump does not run. there is current to the wiring to the pump and to the switch, the fuse is good, and the battery shows that it is ok and charging well. the pump has been tested on a 12v battery and it whizzed round, could you throw any light on this pls. it seams to make no sense as all was ok all but sluggish then as soon as the wiring was cut to attach new pump it wont work. is there something i'm missing ?? help ....... :-)

Hi, I have a Thetford C2 cassette toilet in my '96 Rockwood Premier pupup camper. The toilet hasn't flushed since before I bought it, and the previous guy used the shower water to put fluid in the bowl in order to flush. Today I folded the drain and fill spout out, disconnected the sight glass and drained almost a whole mop bucket worth of the foulest smelling blue liquid from the camper. I removed the toilet paper holder and pulled out the pump. Is the pump and electrical wiring supposed to be submerged in the blue liquid under the paper towel holder? Also, looking for the 3 amp fuse, I looked at the diagram online as well as the one in the manual (same diagram), and the fuse isn't there, but on the side of the switching mechanism i can see two little slots that look like a blade fuse would go there. When I try to put a 3 amp blade fuse in those two little slots, it just won't go in. Now, what I have is the bigger blade fuses that are used in the circuit panel in the camper, is that the correct fuse for the C2, or is it the smaller micro fuse that goes there? Thanks in advance.
The previous owner appears to have put waste tank fluid in the flush tank. The rinse fluid should be used in the flush tank which is normally pink in colour. The pump and wiring is designed to be submerged. The 3 amp blade fuse is the standard size a....

The obvious oversight is that the 12 volt switch on your control panel is not turned on. There may also be a fuse close to the battery that has 'blown'. Depending on the equipment fitted you may have a problem with the battery charger. Make sure th....

I have a Coachman 1992 VIP fitted with a Carver Cascade 2 water heater. The cold water inlet coupling at the bottom left facing the van has sheared off at the point of entry. The fitting looks similar to your part 119476 except that the right hand end is longer and is ribbed to secure it into the hose. Do you have a suitable part or could I use 119476. If so how do I get a good connection to the hose

The pilot light on my Vaillant MAG125 will not stay lit. It was OK last weekend to begin with but then when I closed the water tap the burner did not shut off so I turned it off with the control on the front but now the pilot will not stay lit. I think the thermocouple has failed. What do you think?
You appear to have two problems. Yes the thermocouple is the first item to replace if the pilot light will not stay alight. The fact that the burner kept going when the tap was switched off will possibly mean replacing the water diaphragm as the incr....

Hi Tom. I've got a crystal compact mk2 water socket/pump fitted to my 2001 caravan and I'm having some connection problems. It'll work intermittently, then I'll have to give it a little wiggle and it'll start again. Also sometimes the pump will be running even though there are no taps on. I notice that it is obsolete, so if I need to change it what is the alternative part. Many thanks :-)
There are generally two types of water systems used in caravans. The first is the microswitch system where each tap is fitted with a microswitch. When the tap is opened the switch is turned 'on' and power is supplied to the water pump. This pump is n....

I have bought a 2001 Burstner Ventana 480TK and while it has sinks and taps and plumbing for a water tank, the plumbing and pump is too short to fit in my water rolling-style fresh water tank. Would you have information on such things (it looks like the tank may have been an accessory on this model when new) or a product that would suit our needs? Thanks in advance.

I have a Ultraheat s3002 but the temperature fluctuates a lot. Its maximum temp is okay but then it drops 3 degrees Celsius before thermostat starts the unit again. Probable cause?

how do yo fill a carver cascade mk 2 water heater with water i have just bought the van and not sure how to work it the pump is new but doesn't pump water into the tank
Assuming that you have water coming from your cold tap when the pump is operating, then there must be a blockage in the feed to the Carver heater. This is most likely caused by a faulty cold water inlet connection which screws into the tank at the bo....

Dear Tom , I was working in my 04 Elddis Odyssey 2 weeks ago with heating on . When I had finished I switched off the Ultraheat system at the Thermostatic control (beige) on/off switch , the green indicator light went off . Next day I went into the van to find it nice and cosy , I found the only way to turn off the heat was to switch off the fused switch under the flap in the wardrobe . I also noticed another day although switch was set at 2000w not much heat was amassing , as if set at 850w . Do you think this will be the Thermostatic Control Switch ( old type beige ) or the PCB or heaven forbid both ,
The wall switch needs to be disconnected from the PCB and if it still runs then the PCB is most likely to be at fault.....

How to fit replacement spring for Seitz blind? Our Seitz blinds (on 20 yr old Clubman motorhome) won't retract - fly screen element rises up OK, but foil screen won't drop. I cannot see any spring tensioning screw, which you recommend to other enquiries. You have given ref. for replacement spring to another enquiry, BUT its exploded diagram relates to Heiki frame, which doesn't help me. The Seitz blind diagram is a sizing aid only, it also doesn't help me with fitting either. We are concerned about undoing screws and not being able to get it all back together. So - do you have an exploded diagram for Seitz blinds? Or other advice. Thanks.
On the seitz blind you will need to remove the whole blind from the wall and remove the blind and roller from the housing. If you turn the shaft clockwise then the spring should tighten. if the spring does not tighten then it it likely that you will ....

Good day. Having problems with non functioning automatic igniter in S3002/S heater, have read your replies to similar queries. Battery OK. Wise initially to perhaps change the igniter box if so do you stock them and ? price. Look forward to hearing from you, Alan Seaton.
If you are getting no 'clicking' from the igniter then it could be a faulty igniter or perhaps a faulty switch in the gas valve. To check if the switch is faulty disconnect the brown and black wires from the igniter and connect the two terminals toge....

Re. my last question of Heki rooflights, the 2 ventilation options I was after advice on relate to lights with 15cm fixed ventilation and those without. I assume fixed ventilation is something in addition to opening the rooflight itself - so what is it, how does it work, and what are the benefits?

I am sure this has been asked a 1000 times but here it is again... I have a 2006 Adria Altea TRUMA crystal pump and the last time we were out the water pump kept running and clicked all night...I have been advised to replace the microswitches but the one in the shower room is not connected to anything - How does my water system work as it seems the microswitches are doing nothing also I cannot see a way to access the microswitch on the kitchen tap and don't want to have to remove the oven to get access underneath!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your water system does not rely on microswitches to start the pump. Somewhere in the cold water pipework you will find a pressure switch which will start the pump as it senses a drop in water pressure when you open a tap. It is the pressure switch th....

Hello Tom, Can you help? A common enough problem it seems. run any tap in the van and you can hear the pump running on. Sometimes it will stop and sometimes we have to switch the pump off. I have tried shaking the submersible pump to get air out and also filled the pipe with water before switching on. The chattering noise we hear does not appear to come from the pump which is on the nearside but from behind the fuseboard on the offside at the very front of the under seat locker. I have read as much as I can about this and it seems that microswitches are actually inside the taps, is that always so?
It appears that your pump is controlled by a pressure switch and not microswitches. If you have a Whale Watermaster system then the pressure switch is in the water inlet housing. It can be adjusted by turning the white plastic screw that is evident o....

Hi, I incorrectly ordered Bowden Cables 124428 for my AL-KO boat trailer and need to return them for an exchange. I now realise I should have ordered Knott type with a full threaded end where it attaches to the splitter bar and soldered nipple at the wheel. I finally got to work on it this weekend and note that the existing cables are marked 1189 AL-KO 299711HL1020 ad 2899 AL-KO 299711HL1020 - can you confirm that I should order replacements as 124632 please? Also my order number was 52161-0914 but I do not have a return code please could you advise where I can get one? Thanks in advance for your help!
You have ordered the correct cable as our part 124428 ( Alko ref 247285) replaces Alko part 299711. Alko no longer manufacture cables with threaded ends and you will need to cut a slot in the balance (splitter) bar to fit.....

HI, My Carver water heater (in my 1999 Bailey Moselle) seems to be tripping out the main switch in the caravan. I can't really see that happening as the trip switch is a safety device. must be current overload. Unless the immersion heater element in the carver is going into overload because there is no water in it?? any suggestions?

My Truma S3002 blown air heating only works on gas setting can you advise what I can do. I am a gas safe engineer but don’t have any caravan heater knowledge.
If the 230 volt Ultraheat system is not working then identifying the fault is not straightforward. It could be a problem with the heating element itself, the printed circuit board, the fixed thermostat or over temperature sensors or the wiring loom.....

Bought a new heater element from you for my thetford N90 fridge. I have fitted this but the fridge does not get very cold food thawed in freezer compartment the element is working as heat is rising up the exhaust tube can you suggest any thing
Please make sure that you have located the element in the correct position, i.e. in the tube attached to the chimney. If you have missed the tube, which is easy to do, then the fridge will not operate correctly. If the fridge works OK on gas then the....

Changing the element is not difficult if access is easy and is achieved by undoing two nuts. You will need a small socket set with a M7 socket. The element comes with two nuts and it is very easy to drop these nuts behind the casing whilst trying to....

Hi Tom, When I put the key in my caravan door lock the key will not turn either way. The lock is a Hartal right handed exterior door lock. I saw that you can just buy the barrel and keys on the net but when I took my lock apart and removed the barrel I noticed that the barrel is different from the ones pictured on the net. My barrel is grooved on either side so that it slides into the chamber on the body of the lock. At the bottom of the barrel where it is held in place with a circlip extending from the barrel is a 30 - 40mm piece of flat metal(tang) that extends into the body of the lock when assembled. I cannot see any of these types of hartal barrels to purchase. Do you know if these types of barrels can be bought or is the only answer to buy a complete unit.
The problem with the Hartal locks is not normally associated with the barrel. The problem is with the inner grey part where the shaft through the centre attached to the handle becomes almost seized in the housing. We normally remove the circlip to ....

Hi, I have a new water pump cartridge to replace but the old one won’t come loose to allow use to change it, it’s a screw up one, is there a special tool I need to do this ,as we feel if we use brute force we may snap the plastic hold bit on the cartridge itself , could you suggest anything so we may get it loose? thanks
I am assuming that you have a new filter cartridge for the Crystal water inlet. You can get a special tool to remove the cartridge but normally a large pair of pliers will do the trick.....

The awning rail has pulled away from the caravan and some of the screws are rusty can this be repaired would I replace the old rail or would I be best to buy a new piece of rail if so where could I get this and what could I do if the screws wouldn’t screw back many thanks Tracey
If the screw holding the rail are rusty it indicates that there has been some water penetration and in the worst case the wood that the rail attaches to has become rotten. If the existing rail is serviceable then remove it completely and clean off a....

I have a motorhome as make & model below. The bottom door hinge leaf only has broken the fly screen is still attached. Your product 0844770776 is identical to the broken one. It is easily unscrewed from the door and fly screen BUT it is pop riveted to the door frame. Can I just carefully punch the centre pin out of the existing hinge and replace the broken door leaf with the same from your product?? or will I have to drill the pop rivets out of the hinge complete and frame and then fit the new product and hopefully refit new pop rivets.
Easier to drill out the pop rivets and replace.....

Dear Tom, my door lock on my Abbey GTS 420 is very stiff to turn the key, the inside is a grey colour with the red and green painted dots for lock and unlock, I have sprayed with wd 40, but this has not helped, and I am worried it may break the key. How door I remove the lock from the inside of the van, I have undone the two screws under the hidden plate, but it does not come free, and I don't want to force it?
There are two screws underneath the green and red stoppers. These are difficult to remove unless you drill a small hole in each so you can lever them out.....

Can I add an in-line water pump to a manual pump system? I don’t have an on board water tank, it will need to draw the water from an external water carrier via the original pipe work. If yes, would I put the electric pump before or after the manual foot pump?

I recently had an accident with a height barrier and destroyed the flue on the roof of my caravan. I have recently purchased a new flue from you to replace the broken one. On fitting the new flue I had to trim back the silver internal flue and it is now approx.15mm short of the lip inside the new unit. Is there any way I can extend the flue or seal the slight gap between the flue and the new fitting.
It is important that there is no gap in the flue as this could introduce flue gases into your vehicle. It is best to have a 'Gas Safe' engineer look at it as he may be able to apply some high temperature sealant if applicable. Otherwise you may have ....

Hi. I have a Hymer Van which has a Reich (Keramic Trend?) swan neck mixer tap in the kitchen area - similar to this - http://rk-reich.com/product_info.php?info=p2_Singel-lever-mixer-KERAMIK-TREND-S--75mm-.html&XTCsid=e2ea9ca20146dd4649b7cfcd922bd8bb. Due to my own error it sprang a leak (frost damage) which I have repaired but access to the underside of the unit is very difficult as it has a red and blue angled connector like your items 139238 & 139584 and these are tucked up behind the sink bowl so I have to dismantle the cabinet or remove the sink to get access! 2 Questions - a) can I replace the workings of the tap unit with something with longer connectors that are easier to access? or b) is it possible to replace existing connectors with longer connectors 140115 & 140116? and if so, will these still connect to plastic hoses with jubilee clips?? Or am I better replacing the whole tap??
Yes, you can replace the short connectors with the longer ones and if you wish to connect these to flexible hoses with jubilee clips you will need adaptors 137877. To remove the existing short connectors you will need to knock out the horizontal pin ....

If the igniter is clicking then it does indicate that it is sparking. It is more likely that the gas valve is not opening and that no gas is reaching the burner. Unfortunately the burner module that includes the gas valve is no longer available. T....
