Hi Tom I had a problem with the blind at the gas hob. It would not go up or down. Having been a blind man for 35 years I knew not to put oil on it so I cleaned it soapy cloth, but not much improvement. So I then cleaned it with furniture cream that has done the trick. I wanted it right for sale.

Pleased that you have seen a way forward on this. There is a spring tensioning screw at top right hand corner which can be adjusted to improve retraction.
