The Clayton Power 600W Bidirectional DC-DC Converter transforms how motorhomes and campervans charge auxiliary batteries whilst on the move. This compact unit handles both 12V and 24V systems, delivering up to 40A at 12V or 20A at 24V through its intelligent 5-stage charging algorithm. It's bidirectional, meaning power flows both ways - charging your leisure battery from the alternator when driving, and providing emergency jump-start capability when your vehicle battery runs flat. The jump-start function activates with a 3-second press of the front button, giving you 5 minutes of reverse charging to get your engine started.

Installation suits anyone upgrading from basic split-charge relays or fitting lithium batteries that need proper charging profiles. The unit works with all battery types - lead acid, AGM, gel and lithium - automatically detecting your system voltage on startup. It's compatible with modern smart alternators found in Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles, something that's caused headaches for many motorhome owners trying to charge leisure batteries properly. Measuring 222mm x 110.5mm x 40mm and weighing 620g, it fits in tight spaces where larger 50A or 60A units won't go. The M12 connector handles activation via your ignition signal (D+ wire), and CAN bus communication lets it integrate with compatible power systems.

One limitation to note is the passively cooled design, which means you're limited to 40A maximum on 12V systems compared to fan-cooled units that might push 60-70A. For most weekend tourers and full-timers with battery banks up to 300Ah, this output proves plenty for daily driving recharges. The converter includes undervoltage and overvoltage protection, automatically shutting down if input drops below 11.5V or exceeds 17V on 12V systems. Sleep mode draws under 1mW when the vehicle's off, so there's no parasitic drain on your starter battery during storage.
