The Vango Faros III Air Mid Driveaway Awning gives you proper extra space without taking over your campsite or filling your van. It's built around AirBeam technology that's been refined over ten years, so you're pumping it up rather than wrestling with poles. The 150D Sentinel Active fabric comes with a 4,000mm hydrostatic head rating and ColourLok Eco treatment, which means it handles British weather and keeps its colour when the sun's out. The sewn-in groundsheet stops draughts and bugs getting in, while Diamond Clear windows let plenty of light through without making the space feel like a greenhouse.

What makes this awning work for regular tourers is the roll-away connecting tunnel. You can disconnect from your vehicle in the morning, explore for the day, then re-attach when you get back to your pitch. The tunnel has two access doors so you're not climbing through the main living area every time you need something from the van. The TBS II Tension Band System braces the AirBeam at three points when conditions get breezy, and you can adjust it or stow it away when the weather's calm. You'll get an oversized carry bag with it, which actually makes packing away less of a battle when you're trying to leave site at a reasonable hour.

The Faros III Air Mid works with any vehicle through its pre-attached 6mm kador beading, 8-metre over-vehicle straps, roof bar tabs, and sleeve for pole and clamp systems. Vango includes steel pegs and their ergonomic AirBeam pump with a pressure dial in the box. The mesh front door gives you ventilation without inviting every midge on site inside, and there are lantern hanging points plus the SkyTrack II system for adding lights or storage where you need them. this awning is specially designed for touring, making it perfect for regular getaways and weekend adventures. While it can handle plenty of use, it’s best suited to shorter stays rather than being left pitched for long periods, ensuring the fabric stays in great condition for many trips to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles is the Vango Faros III Air Mid compatible with?
The Faros III Air Mid works with any motorhome, campervan, or van conversion through its multiple attachment methods. It comes with pre-attached 6mm kador beading that fits standard awning rails, 8-metre over-vehicle straps for vehicles without rails, roof bar attachment tabs, and a sleeve for pole and clamp systems. This means whether you've got a Fiat Ducato-based motorhome, a VW California, a Hymer, or a self-converted van, you can attach this awning securely.
How long does it take to pitch the Faros III Air Mid?
Most people can pitch the Faros III Air Mid in around 10 to 15 minutes once they're familiar with the process. The AirBeam technology removes the need for threading poles, so you're essentially pegging out the base, pumping up the beams with the included pump until the pressure dial shows the correct reading, then adjusting the guylines. First-time setup might take slightly longer as you work out the best approach, but it's considerably faster than traditional pole awnings.
Can you leave the Faros III Air Mid attached when driving away from the campsite?
The Faros III Air Mid is designed as a driveaway awning, which means you detach the tunnel section from your vehicle, roll it back and secure it with toggles, then drive off. The awning remains standing on the pitch while you explore. When you return, you park back in the same position and re-attach the tunnel. If you want to keep it attached while driving, you'd need to fully deflate and pack it away, as it's not designed to remain inflated during travel.
What pressure should the AirBeams be inflated to?
Vango AirBeam awnings typically require inflation to 7 PSI, which is shown on the pressure dial built into the included pump. The beams will feel firm when correctly inflated but should still have a slight give when pressed. Under-inflation can affect stability in wind, while over-inflation risks damaging the beam valves or seams. The pump makes it straightforward to reach the correct pressure without guesswork.
Is the Faros III Air Mid suitable for use in winter?
The Faros III Air Mid can be used in winter conditions, as the 150D fabric with 4,000mm hydrostatic head rating handles rain and the structure copes with typical British winter winds when properly pegged and guyed. The sewn-in groundsheet provides draught protection. Air pressure in the beams can drop in cold temperatures, so you may need to top up the inflation. Snow loading can stress any awning, so you'll need to brush heavy snow off the roof regularly. It's designed for touring rather than extended winter camping, so prolonged exposure to harsh conditions will wear it faster than spring and summer use.
What size is the Faros III Air Mid when packed away?
Vango describes the Faros III Air Mid as their smallest awning, designed to be lightweight and compact for storage. It comes in an oversized carry bag that makes packing easier than standard bags. The compact pack size makes it suitable for campervans and smaller motorhomes where storage space is limited, though exact packed dimensions vary slightly depending on how tightly it's rolled and whether you're including the pump and pegs in the same bag.
What happens if an AirBeam gets punctured?
Vango AirBeams are made from tough TPU material that resists punctures under normal use. If a beam does get damaged, each beam is independent, so the others will continue supporting the awning. Vango supplies repair kits for AirBeam products that work similarly to bicycle puncture repair kits. Small punctures can be patched in the field, while larger damage may require the beam to be sent to Vango for professional repair or replacement. The beams are designed with multiple air chambers for added safety.
Do you need a drive away kit to use the driveaway function?
The Faros III Air Mid has the roll-away connecting tunnel built in, so you can disconnect from your vehicle and roll back the tunnel without additional accessories. A drive away kit becomes useful when you want to create a more secure seal or use the awning in different configurations. The basic driveaway function works straight out of the box using the tunnel adjustment strap to secure the rolled tunnel and the toggles to keep it in place while you're away from the pitch.
How do you clean and maintain the Faros III Air Mid?
Clean the Faros III Air Mid with cold water and a soft brush or sponge, working from top to bottom. Avoid detergents or pressure washers as these can damage the waterproof coating. Let it dry completely before packing away to prevent mould and mildew. If you have to pack it away damp, set it up at home within 48 hours to dry properly. Check the AirBeam valves periodically for debris and make sure they're sealing correctly. Store the awning in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. The ColourLok Eco treatment helps maintain colour, but prolonged UV exposure will still cause gradual fading over time.
What additions are available for the Faros III Air Mid?
Vango produces several additions for their Faros range including carpets cut to fit the groundsheet, footprint groundsheets that protect the sewn-in groundsheet from underneath, and side walls or canopies that attach to certain models. The specific additions compatible with the Faros III Air Mid depend on its dimensions and connection points. Check Vango's compatibility charts or contact retailers for confirmed fitment, as additions designed for larger Faros models may not work with the Mid size.

6 FAQs on the Vango Faros III Air Driveaway Awnings | Low & Mid

Which driveaway kit do I need for my Vango Faros 3 Air Low Awning?
The rope channel on all Vango awnings is 6mm. If you are fitting directly to a Kador strip (the metal strip fixed to your van, sometimes called a Reimo rail) these almost always 6mm. You can then slide the rope channel on the awning straight into this. However, you will then not be able to driveaway. In this case you would want to get a 6mm 6mm driveaway kit.

If you are fitting it to a wind-out cassette awning from Thule, Fiamma or Dometic then these have a 4mm rail on them. In this case you will want to buy the 4mm 6mm driveaway kit.

How does the Vango Faros III Awning attach to my campervan?
The awning offers multiple attachment options to suit various vehicles and preferences. These include throw-over straps, a beading that fits into a rail, a fixing kit for a winder awning, a sleeve for a pole and clamp kit, and Velcro tabs for attaching to roof bars. This flexibility ensures a secure and adaptable fit for most vehicles.
How easy is it to set up the Vango Faros III Awning?
The awning is designed for quick and easy setup, with colour-coordinated webbing straps for clear pitching instructions. It can be pitched by one person in approximately 8 minutes. The awning features two inflation points and comes with a manual stirrup pump, utilising Vango's easy-to-use AirSpeed valve system.
What size vehicle will the Vango Faros III Low Awning fit?
The awning features a tunnel section available in a low size, ranging from 180 to 210 cm, making it suitable for a wide range of vehicles, including VW vans, which commonly fit within the 185-190 cm height range. The awning includes doors on either side of the tunnel section for easy access to the vehicle without going through the main awning area.
How does the Vango ColourLok technology work, and what are its benefits?
ColourLok technology involves dyeing the thread before it is woven into the fabric, rather than dyeing the fabric itself. This process ensures better colour retention, making the awning look sharper for longer, with a more even colour distribution. This technology is likened to a carrot's consistent colour throughout, as opposed to a radish's colour only on the outside, providing enhanced resistance to fading from UV light.
What are the key features of the Vango Faros III Driveaway Awning?
The Vango Faros III Driveaway Awning features upgraded 150 denier fabric for enhanced durability and incorporates Vango's ColourLok technology for improved colour retention. It is designed with a small and sharp profile, offering large PVC windows with toggle-up curtains for privacy, low-level ventilation to combat condensation, and a sewn-in groundsheet for added convenience. The awning provides easy pitching with colour-coordinated webbing straps and includes a manual stirrup pump with Vango's AirSpeed valve for inflation.
