The OakEV Camper converts a charge point into a standard electrical connector for your caravan. Power your caravan or RV anywhere you can charge your car, an ideal product for when you’re camping off-site or on a driveway.

The OakEV Camper is an EV charge point adaptor that lets you run your caravan, motorhome, or campervan from a public Type 2 electric vehicle charger. It works by communicating with the charge point exactly the way an EV would, then delivering up to 16A of AC power through a standard CEE output — the same connection your existing campsite hookup cable plugs into. The 50cm lead is intentionally compact because it's designed to sit between the charge point and your existing CEE mains lead, not to replace it. If you've got a standard hookup cable, you're good to go.

Is the OakEV Camper safe to use with a caravan or motorhome?

Yes, the OakEV Camper is designed to be electrically safe with any outfit that accepts standard 230V site hookup. It's fused at 16A — matching the maximum draw of a typical caravan — and its onboard microcontroller continuously monitors incoming current. If there's a mismatch between what the charge point can supply and what's being drawn, the unit shuts off automatically, preventing any overdraw. The cable is also fully RCD protected.

At the heart of the OakEV Camper is a microcontroller that continuously measures the electricity being drawn and compares it against what the charge point is actually providing. If the charger can't meet the demand, the unit won't engage at all — it won't put your outfit or the charge point at risk. It's compatible with all untethered AC charge points, including Pod Point and bp pulse networks, covering the vast majority of public chargers across the UK. You don't need a tethered cable on the charger — the OakEV Camper supplies its own Type 2 connection and locks in the same way an EV does, so it releases cleanly when you're done.

The OakEV Camper is built specifically for the UK and suits caravanners, motorhomers, and van lifers who spend time away from traditional campsites or want to hook up at home using a driveway EV charger. With over 70,000 public EV charge points now across the UK and that number growing steadily, it opens up a wide range of overnight and off-site locations that weren't viable before. Apps like Zapmap and Google Maps both show untethered AC charge point locations, so finding a suitable point wherever you are takes seconds. It's a simple, practical piece of kit for anyone whose leisure travel is changing alongside the UK's charging infrastructure.

The OakEV Camper also contain some extra safety features, some of which are listed below:
  • The cable is fully protected from overloads or short circuits, as it is fully RCD protected
  • The connector lock can be easily released when required - as it communicates with the car charger just like an EV would
  • If the charge point cannot supply the required power, the unit will not engage it, preventing an overdraw of current
  • The product is fused at 16A, you will not be able to draw more current from it than 16A (which is what your caravan should be rated for)

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the OakEV Camper actually do?
The OakEV Camper converts a public Type 2 EV charge point into a standard 230V electrical hookup, delivering up to 16A of AC power through a CEE output. It communicates with the charge point the same way an electric vehicle would, then passes that power through to your caravan, motorhome, or campervan via your existing CEE hookup cable. It does not work with DC rapid chargers — only untethered AC charge points.
How long is the lead on the OakEV Camper?
The lead is 50cm long. This is because the OakEV Camper is an adaptor rather than a full hookup cable. You plug the OakEV Camper into the EV charge point, then connect your existing CEE campsite hookup cable into the OakEV Camper's output socket, and run that cable to your caravan or motorhome as normal. Your standard campsite mains lead provides the required reach.
Which EV charge points is the OakEV Camper compatible with?
The OakEV Camper works with all untethered AC Type 2 charge points, which covers the majority of public charge points across the UK including Pod Point and bp pulse networks. Compatibility is broad because the OakEV Camper's microcontroller communicates with the charge point in the same way an EV does, satisfying the handshake required to release power. It is not compatible with tethered chargers or DC rapid chargers.
Is the OakEV Camper safe to use with a caravan or motorhome?
Yes. If your outfit accepts standard site electrics, the OakEV Camper is safe to use. It is fused at 16A — the standard maximum draw for a UK caravan — and its onboard microcontroller continuously monitors the current being drawn against what the charge point is supplying. If there is a mismatch, the unit will not engage, preventing any overdraw. The cable is fully RCD protected against overloads and short circuits, and the connector lock releases cleanly on demand, communicating with the charger just as an EV would throughout the session.
How do I find EV charge points suitable for use with the OakEV Camper?
The two most widely used tools are Zapmap and Google Maps. Zapmap is the most detailed, allowing you to filter by charge point type and network, which makes it straightforward to identify untethered AC Type 2 locations near your pitch or route. Google Maps also lists charge point locations and is useful for a quick overview. You need to look for untethered AC charge points — these are the ones where you supply your own cable.
Should I park directly in the EV bay when using the OakEV Camper?
OakEV recommend parking next to the bay rather than in it where possible, and charging from there. If an EV driver arrives who needs to charge their vehicle, you should give way to them. EV charge points are a shared resource and courteous use of them is important. The OakEV Camper's 50cm lead connects directly to the charge point, and your existing CEE hookup cable then runs from there to your outfit.
Can I use the OakEV Camper at home on a driveway EV charger?
Yes. If you have an untethered home EV charge point — the type where you supply your own cable — the OakEV Camper works exactly the same way as it does at a public charge point. This means you can run mains power to a caravan or motorhome parked on your driveway without needing to install a separate outdoor mains socket, which makes it a cost-effective solution for home storage or pre-trip preparation.
Is the OakEV Camper designed for use outside the UK?
No. All OakEV products are designed and built specifically for use within the UK. If you are based outside the UK and wish to enquire about a purchase, you would need to contact OakEV directly. The product is compliant with relevant UK national standards, which is a key part of why its charger compatibility across UK networks is so broad.
