myCOOLMAN Portable Fridge Freezers

myCOOLMAN portable fridge freezers are built on decades of German engineering expertise in mobile refrigeration. The brand's roots go back to 1974, when brothers Theodor and Peter Wahning founded WAECO in Emsdetten, Germany. The Wahning brothers developed the first battery-powered mobile refrigerator, and over the following three decades grew WAECO into one of the leading names in portable cooling worldwide. WAECO was acquired by Dometic Group in 2007.

After selling WAECO, Theodor Wahning stepped into retirement. It didn't last. By 2016, Wahning and his former WAECO colleague Andreas Bischof, who'd spent 20 years at WAECO before relocating to Australia's Gold Coast, recognised that compressor and thermal insulation technology had moved on significantly since their WAECO days. They formed Leisure-Tec Australia and started work on a new portable fridge freezer range from scratch, applying everything they'd learned over four decades in the industry.

myCOOLMAN launched in early 2019 with seven models, an unusually large debut range for a new brand. The fridges are designed in Germany and built around a patented Blue-Gen variable speed compressor. The range has since expanded to cover single zone portable fridge freezers from 15 litres up to 105 litres and dual zone models from 38 litres to 96 litres. All models operate on 12V, 24V and 240V power, with temperature control down to -20 degrees Celsius. Bluetooth app connectivity, three-level battery protection and a turbo mode for faster cooling come as standard across the range.

One of myCOOLMAN's more practical design choices is fitting dual DC power inputs at each end of the fridge, so you're not limited by which way round the unit sits in your boot or caravan garage. The lids are thicker than many competitors to resist warping over time, and the handles are recessed into the body rather than protruding, which saves space in tight vehicle loads.

The myCOOLMAN PowerPack is a 15Ah portable lithium battery that magnetically attaches to the side of the fridge, turning any compatible myCOOLMAN unit into a standalone portable fridge freezer with no need for a vehicle or mains connection. Run times vary depending on ambient temperature and model size, so it's best suited to day trips and shorter outings rather than extended off-grid camping where a dedicated leisure battery setup would be more appropriate.

Following strong take-up in Australia's 4WD and caravan market, myCOOLMAN is now distributed in the UK through Milenco. The portable fridge freezer range suits caravans, motorhomes, campervans, car camping and boat use. Insulated protective covers and accessories are available separately for each model size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who founded myCOOLMAN?
myCOOLMAN was created by Theodor Wahning and Andreas Bischof through their company Leisure-Tec Australia. Wahning co-founded WAECO in Germany in 1974 and spent over 30 years developing mobile refrigeration technology before selling the business to Dometic Group in 2007. After retiring, he and Bischof, a former WAECO CFO, came out of retirement to build a new portable fridge freezer brand using the latest compressor and insulation technology. myCOOLMAN launched in early 2019.
Is myCOOLMAN related to WAECO or Dometic?
myCOOLMAN isn't owned by or formally connected to Dometic or the WAECO brand. The link is through the founders. Theodor Wahning co-founded WAECO in 1974, and Andreas Bischof worked as CFO at WAECO for 20 years. After WAECO was sold to Dometic in 2007 and both had retired, they used their engineering knowledge to create myCOOLMAN as an independent brand. The fridge freezers are designed in Germany and produced by Leisure-Tec Australia.
Where are myCOOLMAN fridge freezers designed and made?
myCOOLMAN products are designed and engineered in Germany and manufactured in China. This follows the same production model the founders used during their time at WAECO. The patented Blue-Gen variable speed compressor at the heart of each unit is a German-engineered design. The company, Leisure-Tec Australia, is based in Campbellfield, Victoria.
Is myCOOLMAN available in the UK?
Yes. After establishing the brand in Australia's 4WD and caravan market from 2019, myCOOLMAN is now distributed in the UK through Milenco. The full range of portable fridge freezers, insulated covers, PowerPacks and accessories are available from UK retailers including Leisureshopdirect.
What is the myCOOLMAN Blue-Gen compressor?
The Blue-Gen is myCOOLMAN's patented variable speed compressor. It adjusts its running speed based on cooling demand, which reduces power consumption when the fridge is already at temperature and increases output when rapid cooling is needed (such as after loading warm items). It's roughly half the weight of standard compressors used in competing portable fridge freezers, which contributes to the lower overall weight of myCOOLMAN units compared to similar-capacity models from other brands.
What warranty do myCOOLMAN fridge freezers come with?
myCOOLMAN fridge freezers come with a 5-year warranty. This covers 3 years against defects in materials and workmanship, plus an additional 2 years of parts-only cover on the compressor. Claims are made through the retailer you purchased from.
