Product Description

Fabsil Gold Silicone Concentrate Spray offers a straightforward solution for refreshing the waterproofing on your tent, awning or camping gear without the hassle of washing machines or buckets. This aerosol format works brilliantly for targeting seams, zip areas and high-wear zones where water tends to sneak through after a season or two of use. The 200ml can fits easily in your toolkit and gives you precision application on awkward spots that a brush-on treatment would struggle to reach.

The formula works on most outdoor fabrics including polycotton, canvas, nylon and polyester. You'll find it particularly handy for touching up older tents where the factory waterproofing has started to fail, or for treating awning poles, guy ropes and other fabric components. It dries to leave an invisible barrier that beads water off the surface rather than letting it soak through. One can covers a decent area, though you'll go through it quickly if you're doing an entire tent flysheet.

Application takes about 15 minutes once you've cleaned the fabric properly. Spray from 10-15cm away, work methodically across the surface, then wipe off any drips with a cloth. Leave it to cure for at least 24 hours before packing away or exposing it to rain. The concentrate formula means you get better coverage per can compared to standard aerosol waterproofers. For full tent reproofing, most caravanners pair this spray with Fabsil's 1-litre tin for the main panels, then use the aerosol for seams and corners.

How To Use

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Fabsil Gold Silicone Concentrate Spray protection last on a tent?

Protection duration depends on exposure levels and fabric type. A tent used for weekend camping typically needs retreatment after 8-12 months of active use. Full-time tourers or seasonal pitchers often reapply annually. Canvas and polycotton hold treatments longer than nylon. UV exposure, rain frequency and fabric flexing during pitching all affect longevity. You'll know it needs retreating when water stops beading and starts soaking into the fabric.

Can I use Fabsil Gold spray on a tent that's already wet?

No, the fabric must be completely dry before application. Moisture prevents the silicone from bonding properly to the fibres. If your tent got wet during use, pitch it at home or hang it in a garage until fully dried. Clean off any dirt or organic matter with Fabsil Tent and Gear cleaner first, then let it dry again before applying the waterproofing spray. Treating damp fabric wastes product and leaves gaps in protection.

Will this spray affect the breathability of my tent fabric?

Fabsil Gold maintains breathability on purpose-designed breathable fabrics when applied correctly. Modern tent materials have microscopic pores that let water vapour escape while blocking liquid water. The silicone coating works on the outer surface without clogging these pores. Heavy overapplication reduces breathability, so follow the instructions and avoid saturating the fabric. Single-skin nylon tents without breathable properties won't lose performance because they weren't breathable to start with.

How many tents can I treat with one 200ml can of Fabsil Gold spray?

One 200ml aerosol treats approximately 3-4 square metres of fabric, making it suitable for seam sealing and targeted repairs rather than full tent coverage. A two-person dome tent needs 2-3 cans if you're doing all seams, door areas and groundsheet edges. For complete tent reproofing, most users buy the 1-litre tin version for main panels and keep the spray for seams, zips and awkward corners. Awning owners typically use one can per season for touching up vulnerable spots.

Does Fabsil Gold spray work on synthetic sleeping bags and rucksacks?

Yes, the spray treats nylon and polyester rucksacks, backpacks and outer shells of synthetic sleeping bags. It works well on pack areas that take abrasion from rough surfaces or get exposed to rain. Avoid spraying down or synthetic insulation directly as it affects loft and warmth. For sleeping bags, only treat the outer shell fabric. Rucksacks benefit from treatment on base panels, lid areas and anywhere seams meet. Test on a small hidden area first to check for any finish changes.

What's the difference between Fabsil Gold spray and the regular Fabsil waterproofer?

Fabsil Gold contains a higher concentration of active silicone compared to standard formulations. This gives stronger water repellency and longer-lasting protection. The Gold formula also includes UV inhibitors that slow down fabric degradation from sunlight. Regular Fabsil works fine for occasional campers, but the Gold version suits full-timers and anyone who keeps gear outdoors long-term. Both versions come in spray and tin formats. The price difference reflects the enhanced formula and extended protection period.
