The Outwell Collaps Kettle solves one of camping's most frustrating problems - finding space for bulky cookware. At 1.5 litres capacity, it's big enough to make tea for four people yet collapses from 14.5cm height down to just 4.5cm flat when you're packing up. The body is food-grade silicone bonded to a stainless steel base, which means you can sit it directly on your gas stove, campfire grate, or induction hob without worry. The steel rim around the top keeps its shape when pouring, and the handle stays cool enough to grip even when the water's boiling.

It opens and closes in about three seconds - you just pull the sides up until they click into place, no fiddling with clips or complicated mechanisms. The wide opening makes it easy to fill from awkward taps at campsites, and you can get a sponge right inside for cleaning. At 500g it's heavier than an aluminium kettle of the same size, but the silicone construction means it won't dent if you drop it or crack if it gets knocked about in your camping box. The grey mist colour hides staining better than lighter shades, which matters when you're washing up with questionable campsite water.

This kettle works best for campers who pack a car, caravan, or motorhome rather than backpackers counting every gram.
