The Crusader 1500mm Propane Pigtail connects B-Gas cylinders to fixed Euro regulators in caravans and motorhomes. This 1.5m hose features an M20 fitting that screws directly onto your existing regulator, eliminating the need for additional adaptors. The length gives you enough reach to position your gas cylinder in most standard gas lockers whilst keeping the connection secure and protected from road vibrations.

Built for UK touring conditions, this pigtail handles both LPG and B-Gas cylinders without issue. The rubber hose maintains flexibility in cold weather, which matters when you're camping in Scotland during autumn or spring. Regular inspections are needed though - like all gas hoses, this one has a finite lifespan and should be checked for cracks or wear every season before you head off on tour.

Caravan owners switching from butane to propane often need this specific pigtail configuration. The M20 thread size matches most Euro regulators fitted to caravans manufactured after 2003, but older vans might have different fittings. Check your regulator thread size before ordering, as the M20 fitting won't work with older W20 or POL connections. Installation takes minutes with basic spanners, but if you're unsure about gas connections, get a mobile gas engineer to fit it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between M20 and W20 pigtail fittings?
M20 fittings have a metric 20mm thread and are the European standard used on most caravans and motorhomes manufactured after 2003. W20 fittings use a Whitworth 20mm thread and were common on older UK caravans before the industry switched to metric standards. The threads are not interchangeable - an M20 pigtail will not fit a W20 regulator and attempting to force it can damage the threads and create a dangerous gas leak.
How do I know if my caravan has an M20 or W20 regulator?
Check the manufacturing date of your caravan first - vans built after 2003 typically have M20 fittings whilst earlier models use W20. The regulator body often has markings stamped on it showing the thread type. If there are no markings, measure the external thread diameter with callipers - M20 threads measure exactly 20mm whilst W20 threads are slightly different. When in doubt, take the old pigtail to a caravan accessory shop for comparison or consult a qualified gas engineer.
Can I use this pigtail with both butane and propane cylinders?
This pigtail is designed for propane and LPG cylinder connections, not butane. Propane regulators operate at 37mbar whilst butane regulators work at 28mbar, so mixing the two creates incorrect gas pressure that affects appliance performance and safety. If you need to switch between fuel types, you must change the regulator to match the gas type. Most modern caravans use propane because it works in freezing temperatures whilst butane stops flowing below 0°C.
How long do gas pigtails last before they need replacing?
Gas pigtails should be replaced every 5 years regardless of visible condition, as the rubber degrades internally over time even when not in use. The manufacturing date is stamped on the hose - look for a date code showing month and year. Inspect your pigtail every season for cracks, splits, hardening, or bulges which indicate immediate replacement is needed. Road vibrations, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations accelerate degradation, so caravans used frequently may need replacement sooner than the 5-year guideline.
What is B-Gas and why do I need a specific pigtail for it?
B-Gas is a propane cylinder brand available at filling stations across the UK, marketed as an alternative to Calor Gas. The cylinders use the same propane formulation but come in different sizes including lightweight options popular with motorhome owners. You need a propane-compatible pigtail with the correct regulator fitting - this M20 pigtail works with B-Gas cylinders when connected to a compatible Euro regulator. The cylinder valve itself uses a standard POL connection, which your regulator attaches to via this pigtail.
Can I fit this pigtail myself or do I need a gas engineer?
Legally, you can replace your own gas pigtail on a caravan or motorhome as it is a user-serviceable component. Turn off the gas at the cylinder valve, unscrew the old pigtail from the regulator using appropriate spanners, then hand-tighten the new pigtail before giving it a final quarter turn with a spanner. Test the connection with leak detection fluid before using any gas appliances. If you smell gas, are unsure about the thread type, or lack confidence working with LPG systems, hire a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit it properly.
