The Brunner Monsun 12V Hairdryer plugs straight into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket, giving you salon-quality drying wherever your travels take you. Built for caravan, motorhome, and campervan owners, this compact 120W hairdryer runs directly from your 12V system without needing an inverter or mains hook-up. It's designed to draw power efficiently, staying within the safe operating limits of a standard 15-amp 12V socket, so you won't overload your vehicle's circuitry.

The Brunner Monsun operates at 120W, drawing around 10 amps from your 12V system when in use. It plugs directly into any standard cigarette lighter socket, working best when your vehicle's engine is running or when connected to a fully charged leisure battery. The folding handle allows the dryer to pack flat into dimensions of 18.5 x 7 x 10.5 cm, fitting neatly into glove boxes, storage compartments, or your travel bag.

Crafted from durable Soft-Touch plastic, the Monsun feels comfortable in your hand and stands up to the demands of life on the road. The detachable styling nozzle directs airflow precisely where you need it, helping you dry and style your hair after a day exploring, swimming, or enjoying the outdoors. Weighing just 320g, it's light enough to use comfortably and comes with its own protective storage case to keep it safe during transport. The simple on/off switch makes operation straightforward, while the folding mechanism transforms it into a compact square shape when not in use.

This hairdryer is built specifically for off-grid adventures and touring. It provides reliable, steady drying power that respects your battery capacity, making it a practical choice for festival-goers, dog walkers, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone who spends time away from mains electricity. When open, it measures 15 x 7 x 18 cm, giving you a full-sized grip and comfortable handling during use. The Brunner Monsun brings convenience and reliability to your camping trips, letting you stay groomed and comfortable no matter where the road leads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Brunner Monsun 12V Hairdryer work without mains electricity?
Yes, the Brunner Monsun operates entirely from your vehicle's 12V system by plugging into the cigarette lighter socket. It does not require an inverter or mains hook-up, making it ideal for off-grid camping, wild camping, and touring when you're away from electrical hookups. It draws 120W at 12V DC, staying within safe limits for standard vehicle sockets.
Will a 12V hairdryer drain my leisure battery quickly?
The Brunner Monsun draws approximately 10 amps from your 12V system when operating at 120W. For short drying sessions of 5-10 minutes, the impact on your leisure battery is manageable, especially if you have a fully charged battery or solar charging. For the best experience, run your vehicle's engine whilst using the hairdryer, allowing the alternator to supply power and preserve battery life. For regular use, consider a robust solar charging system or high-capacity portable power station.
How does a 12V hairdryer compare to a mains hairdryer for drying performance?
The Brunner Monsun operates at 120W compared to typical household hairdryers that run at 1200-2000W. This means it produces gentler heat and airflow, so drying takes a little longer than a mains dryer. It's designed for practical, efficient drying that's perfect for camping, caravanning, and motorhome use, providing a convenient solution without the need for high-power inverters.
What are the folded and open dimensions of the Brunner Monsun hairdryer?
When folded, the Brunner Monsun measures 18.5 x 7 x 10.5 cm, making it compact enough to fit in glove compartments, cupboards, or travel bags. When open and ready for use, it extends to 15 x 7 x 18 cm, providing a comfortable grip. The folding handle design saves space and the included protective carry case keeps it safe during storage and transport.
Can I use the Brunner 12V hairdryer whilst parked without running the engine?
You can use the Brunner Monsun from a leisure battery or powerpack without running your engine, and it will draw around 10 amp-hours per hour of use. For brief drying sessions of 5-10 minutes, this works well if your battery is fully charged. For regular use or longer drying times, running your engine or having a solar charging system in place helps maintain your battery reserves. Alternatively, use it when connected to a high-capacity portable power station for added convenience.

I got this to use when off grid and using the solar generator and it works well, yes it’s better on cold than hot but it does the job.

by Tiga (28 May 2021)

Bought for use in the motorhome. Its a good size and good quality. The hot function is a little weak but the cold blows out with some force. Better than expected. Very happy with it.

Dried My Hair.....albeit Slowly!

by Deb H (20 Oct 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
I ordered this not knowing what to expect apart from there's no way this dryer running on 12v is going to work same as my mains powered one. Anyway to sum up performance I'd say it's ok and does it's job well considering. Noise level is no more than standard hair dryer however anyone expecting blow power from this to be same as standard hairdryer will be very disappointed. Yes it blows warm or cold air.....blow power does increase when heat is turned off but then drying time increases on cold setting. I've used this dryer many times this year while caravaning in remote areas of Scotland and it's dried my shoulder length fine hair in around 15 to 20 mins. For anyone wanting to use this as a defrosting device in their car then I'm sorry I can't help but it does do it's job of drying my hair albeit a little more slowly than a conventional hairdryer.

Does The Job, Don’t Expect It To Be As Powerful As Your Usual Dryer

by Mrs N L Plummer (10 Jul 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
After reading previous comments, this hairdryer had mixed reviews.
I wasn’t expecting it to be as powerful as a standard hairdryer, which it isn’t. But it does the job. It dries your hair. Takes longer & not as warm, but works fine.
Neat design, folds up really small.
I agree with other comments about the nozzle being bit ‘dodgy’ . Bit of superglue & it’s fine

Works nice. Maybe lacks a bit of power.

Surprisingly Good

by Big Bri (12 Jan 2018)
5 star review(5/5)
Not the most powerful of hairdryers but surprisingly good for a 12v system. We’ve had several power cuts so I bought this for my wife to use before work just in case the power goes off first thing in the morning. I5 works well and she’s pleased with the backup. By the way, if she needs to use it (unfortunately I don’t need a hairdryer these days) I have a 12v power booster used in the garage so she wouldn’t have to sit in the car to dry her hair.

It's A Good Thing

by MR RC BRAMWELL (12 Aug 2017)
3 star review(3/5)
This hair dryer has a good blow on cold air but to get any heat the fan speed has been reduced. So I would suggest you keep your car running to ; A) get the best performance from the dryer, and B) save the battery. But all in all not a bad little thing.

If You Are Away In Vechicle Its Fine.

Gentle Warmth. Great For Telescope Mirrors.

by M. Styles (19 Nov 2015)

Great for removing secondary mirror condensation from my Newtonian telescope on dewy nights to give me typically an extra 3 hours observing through the night.

Telescope Not Hair

by Willo (27 Dec 2012)
4 star review(4/5)
I bought this for clearing the dew of my telescope. For this purpose it is more that suitable as it doesn't blast hot air out onto the cold glass.

Monsun 12v Hair Dryer

by Dg (13 Dec 2012)
4 star review(4/5)
I purchased this to remove dew from my astronomical telescope when observing. It produces just enough warmth to suit my purpose. However, due to its low heat output, I seriously doubt that it would be of any use for its intended purpose even in an indoor environment such as a caravan
