All models of the Mobicool MT48W have two sturdy wheels, a pull-out handle, side-handles for lifting and can operate using your car's battery – giving you have the freedom enjoy cool food and drink anywhere! Some versions of the MT48W have the added benefit of being powered by mains electricity for indoor use. Thanks to their extra thick insulation, and a robust outer casing the Mobicool MT48W cool box can cool up to 16 °C below the ambient temperature, while being tough enough for use outdoors. A split lid design minimizes loss of cold air, while the removable inner divider and cable compartment keep things nice and organised. The Mobicool MT48W portable cool box is designed and manufactured to the highest standards by Mobicool. The Mobicool MT48W coolbox has a capacity of 48 litres which can be run from 12v DC in either the upright or lying position. The Mobicool MT48W camping cool box can cool to 16°C below the ambient temperature and is made from insulating material to help reduce your power consumption. The Mobicool MT48W cool box and has a two sturdy wheels, multi function pull out handle, dual voltage auto switch, accommodates standing 2L bottles, integrated cable compartment, 12 volt leads included and 230v plug included. This is the replacement for the Mobicool W48 coolbox.

The Technical Bit
A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

The Technical Bit
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal.

The Technical Bit
Compressor units operate using a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit – the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. Here, the absorbed heat is released to the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.

1 FAQ on the Dometic Mobicool MT48W AC/DC Cool Box

I’m looking to buy a Mobicool MT48W but I’m a little confused about whether it is dual powered. The page on your website speaks about it being both mains and 12V but then there’s a comment in there… “Some versions of the MT48W have the added benefit of being powered by mains electricity for indoor use” … that implies not all models are dual power. It’s important for me to have the option to plug it into the mains so I just need clarification on how to be sure I get the model that supports that.

The MT48W can be powered from both 12V and 230V. I hope that answers your question.

A lot better than expected. Had it running for a whole week with no issues. Runs well in the car and in a tent. I had day temperatures of up to 30 degrees and food / drink was still perfectly cool. Cant fault it. Slight downside you do get a fair bit of water within the unit if it has been running for a long time. Simple to over come and clean / dry daily, so no big issue.
