Dometic have taken a great deal of care with the design and development of the electronics only used in the CFX series. It is designed to be as energy efficient as possible. When the Dometic CFX3 95DZ starts up the compressor is gently started to save energy. If the desired temperature is not met within an expected short period of time, there is a turbo cooler which then comes on automatically to boost the compressor speed until the pre-set temperature is reached. Once met, the software and electronics switches the compressor back into energy-saving mode.

The Technical Bit
A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

The Technical Bit
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal. WE WILL BE LIVING IN OUR VAN FULL TIME FOR OVER A YEAR; CAN THE CFX COOLER BE ON AND RUNNING FOR AN EXTENSIVE PERIOD OF TIME?

Yes, as long as the product is maintained, there's no reason why the product should not last years.

CAN YOU PUT THE CFX ON THE BACKSEAT OF A CAR? DOES IT HAVE TO BE LEVEL? WILL IT OPERATE SAFELY IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR?

You should have no trouble operating out of either location, it will be fine as long as it's mostly level; the CFX range is designed to opperate at up to a 30% angle. Any more than a 30% incline will impede performance, and we do not recommend placing the CFX unit on it's side at all.

CAN YOU SIT ON THE TOP OF THE CFX LIKE A BENCH? HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN THE LID HOLD?

Yes, the cooler is sturdy enough to be sat on. Although we wouldn't recommend anyone heavier than about 250 lbs. to sit on it.

IS THERE IS ANY HARM IN LEAVING THE CFX OFF/WITHOUT POWER FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME (3+ MONTHS)?

There should be no trouble storing it for long periods of time without power, if the unit is clean and empty. Just ensure that you plug it back in and allow enough time for the unit to acheive the required temperature, especially if you are planning to store temperature sensative items during your trip.

WHAT AMP FUSE SHOULD BE USED BETWEEN MY AUXILIARY BATTERY AND THE FRIDGE?

We highly recomend a 15 amp fuse in this instance.

ARE CFX COOLERS SUITABLE TO BE LEFT OUTSIDE?

The CFX range is marketed as weatherproof and can stand to be in a little bit of weather. However, we do suggest you use a little common sense. If it's going to be a pretty bad storm, it should be stored inside.

DO THE CFX COOLERS MAKE NOISE WHILE RUNNING? HOW LOUD ARE THEY?

The CFX range is very quiet- we know of many customers, including ourselves, that have slept next to it in a vehicle or van without issues. The exact decibel (dB) measurement is in the specs and is 37dB.

HOW LONG WILL THE COOLER HOLD TEMPATURE WITHOUT POWER?

From internal testing the "stuff" inside your CFX will warm up at approximately 1 degree Fahrenheit per hour, when the cooler is off. This was tested at 68F ambient temperature, compartment temperature of 38F, with cans of soda inside. Additionally the lid was left closed.

Remember- opening the lid frequently, a higher ambient temperature, and less "stuff" inside the CFX will cause the items to warm up faster.

IF ON SOME TRIPS, I DON'T NEED ALL THE SPACE AVAILABLE IN THE CFX95DZW, CAN I ONLY USE ONE COMPARTMENT (IE. COMPLETELY TURN-OFF ONE OF THE TWO COMPARTMENTS - THUS SAVING ON POWER CONSUMPTION)?

For our dual zones, the CFX75DZW and CFX95DZW, you can shut off one side to save energy or use it as a dry storage or pantry area.

The easiest way to do this is through the Dometic CFX app available on iOS or Android. You can also do this manually with the following steps:

1. With the CFX turned on, press SET until the temperature flashes on the compartment you want to turn off. Once the temperature is flashing, press the power button. Display will say OFF. To turn the compartment back on, repeat the previous steps.

THE LIGHT ON MY CFX KEEPS SWITCHING BETWEEN GREEN AND ORANGE IS THIS NORMAL?

Yes it is normal for the light to change from green to orange as the compressor cycles on and off.

WHAT FREE AIR SPACE IS REQUIRED AROUND THE PORTS NEARBY THE COMPRESSOR? WOULD 20-30MM BE SUFFICIENT?

The condensers are fan assisted, so they are fairly forgiving, but the more space you leave the better, as there will be less restriction to air movement. You would probably find performance OK at 30mm so long as the hot air could escape upwards. i.e. nothing covering the top of the refrigerator such as a shelf etc.

If you have a car you will struggle with this one, however if you have a larger vehicle it’s ideal.
Used it in hotel rooms as well and it looks good wherever it is.
Lift the lid and it’s like opening the door to Narnia, it holds a lot.

We have this in our mobile Gin bar and it works brilliantly. Keeps the ice frozen in the left compartment and we keep the tonic in the right side. Very durable and aren't worried of it breaking when kneeling on it or accidently banging it. Overall, it was expensive but was worth every penny!

This is a great portable fridge freezer and it suits our needs perfectly! Yes, it's quite an investment, but it's totally worth it.
We have a raw fed dog, therefore the food needs to be frozen while stored. When we travel, we usually rent a self-catering apartment, but mostly there is no freezer or only a very small freezer compartment which is integrated in the fridge. So not really sufficient space for a weeks supply of frozen raw food. This was one of the reasons why we were looking into this portable fridge freezer. It's perfect! We can operate it via the car cigar plug and on arrival at our destination we simply carry it to the holiday accommodation and plug it in the wall socket. Also you can bring along your own frozen food. It's a bit big and also bulky, but we managed to fit everything nicely in the car. I can recommend this product!

Excellent bit of kit. Very robust. Compressor is virtually silent. I sleep 2 Metres away n cant hear it. Its very simple to set up and use. Set the temperature and away you go. I have this running 24/7 in my campervan with 300 Watts of solar panels. It very frugal on electricity and you have piece of mind knowing tbat it will cut out before flattening your batteries. There is tons of space inside for food n tinnies.

I did not buy my fridge from Amazon, but Amazon is as good a review site as anywhere else.

The main feature I needed for my fridge was the great and efficient performance when running from a 12V battery, and this fridge(and the others in the range I presume) is one of the best for this. I ran it from a portable battery for 22 hours without solar charging. I also have had it in the car overnight over to the next day with no problems. It has a built in meter to switch itself off if it detects a low battery. I suspect I will never need this though unless I leave it in the car for a couple of days without running the car.

It's quite a bit bigger and heavier than the standard cool boxes I have owned, but the performance is 'in a different league' and is probably worth the money if you do a lot of camping as I do.
If however you do a couple of weeks camping a year, then maybe it is a bit overkill.
