The Dometic CoolFreeze CFX 28 is a powerful cooler for refrigeration or freezing. With its high-performance compressor technology and extra thick insulation, this cooler is impressively quiet and efficient while being able to withstand the most demanding of loads thanks to its robust design. On top of all this, the CFX 28 is remarkably lightweight and easy to transport.

This is the most efficient 12V compressor coolbox on the market. This uses upto 35% less power consumption than any other box on the market today.

At an operating temperature of -22°C and an outside temperature of upto 32°C the CFX28 has a current consumption of 0.3Ah/h. This equates to using a normal 80Ah leisure battery for 266 hours or 11 days....amazing!!

The CFX28 is a robust 26 litre (including 3.5 litre crisper) high quality fridge and freezer. It runs on 12V/24V & 240V and is one of the most powerful compressor coolers on the market. It has a A++ energy rating and will deep freeze temperatures down to -22°C. It is fully controlled from the digital display and has a temperature range from +10°C to -22°C.

This is designed to last and has a number of robust features. The CFX28 has reinforced corners, stainless steel hinges and a very strong lid lining with a super-strong closing mechanism. Despite this it is remarkably lightweight and easy to transport with its space-saving folding and detachable carrying handles. It has a cooling compartment with wire basket and separate crisper for fruit and vegetables; the wire basket can even be divided using a grid divider.

Top of the range Dometic Coolfreeze CFX Electronics
Dometic have taken a great deal of care with the design and development of the electronics only used in the CFX series. It is designed to be as energy efficient as possible. When the Dometic CFX28
starts up the compressor is gently started to save energy. If the desired temperature is not met within an expected short period of time, there is a turbo cooler which then comes on automatically to boost the compressor speed until the pre-set temperature is reached. Once met, the software and electronics switches the compressor back into energy-saving mode.

TESTED IN THE MOST EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS!
The Dometic CFX portable fridge/freezer has an excellent cooling performance even in high ambient temperatures. We know this because it's tested in the harsh conditions and extreme heat of the Australian desert! It's robust, efficient and ready for action. The CFX is our most awarded product and you'll quickly understand why.

WHERE DOES THE DOMETIC CFX 28 GET ITS IMMENSE POWER?
Compressor cooling technology, used in Dometic's CFX series, offers unrivalled cooling power. But how does it work? Well, it relies on a refrigerant that changes from a liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation process extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit, causing the temperature to drop. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. From here, the absorbed heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies and flows back to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again. The result of this is an excellent cooling performance, capable of deep-freezing, even at extreme ambient temperatures.

A few points specific to the CFX Series:

- Intelligent, automatic turbo cooler
- 3-stage battery protection, set using the digital display
- 4-digit digital display (Celsius or Fahrenheit)

THIS COOLBOX USES COMPRESSOR TECHNOLOGY

What is the difference between the cooling technologies?
ABSORPTION COOLING
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Gas-powered cooling independent of electricity
  • Three way cooling – Gas, 12 volts DC or 230 volts AC
  • Silent operation
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

THERMOELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • 12 / 24 / 230 Volt
  • Independent of inclination
  • Lightweight and low-cost
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal. The heating or cooling capacity is further enhanced by heat exchangers and air fans. Ideal for low and medium cooling volumes.

COMPRESSOR TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Excellent cooling performance even at extreme ambient temperatures
  • Refrigeration and deep-freezing
  • 12 / 24 / 100 – 240 volts
  • Low power consumption – suitable for solar operation
  • Battery protection
  • Quiet operation with little vibration
  • Independent of inclination

The Technical Bit
Compressor units operate using a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit – the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. Here, the absorbed heat is released to the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.

Great Product

5 star review(5/5)
Used this at an outside event last weekend. Very impressed. Connected it to the mains in my house first to load it up, then used it on 12V in the car to get to the event. Once we were set up at the event used battery clips and hooked it directly to the battery. All worked great!

Question

WE WILL BE LIVING IN OUR VAN FULL TIME FOR OVER A YEAR; CAN THE CFX COOLER BE ON AND RUNNING FOR AN EXTENSIVE PERIOD OF TIME?
Posted
on

Answer

Yes, as long as the product is maintained, there's no reason why the product should not last years.

Question

CAN YOU PUT THE CFX ON THE BACKSEAT OF A CAR? DOES IT HAVE TO BE LEVEL? WILL IT OPERATE SAFELY IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR?
Posted
on

Answer

You should have no trouble operating out of either location, it will be fine as long as it's mostly level; the CFX range is designed to opperate at up to a 30% angle. Any more than a 30% incline will impede performance, and we do not recommend placing the CFX unit on it's side at all.

Question

CAN YOU SIT ON THE TOP OF THE CFX LIKE A BENCH? HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN THE LID HOLD?
Posted
on

Answer

Yes, the cooler is sturdy enough to be sat on. Although we wouldn't recommend anyone heavier than about 250 lbs. to sit on it.

Question

IS THERE IS ANY HARM IN LEAVING THE CFX OFF/WITHOUT POWER FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME (3+ MONTHS)?
Posted
on

Answer

There should be no trouble storing it for long periods of time without power, if the unit is clean and empty. Just ensure that you plug it back in and allow enough time for the unit to acheive the required temperature, especially if you are planning to store temperature sensative items during your trip.

Question

WHAT AMP FUSE SHOULD BE USED BETWEEN MY AUXILIARY BATTERY AND THE FRIDGE?
Posted
on

Answer

We highly recomend a 15 amp fuse in this instance.

Question

ARE CFX COOLERS SUITABLE TO BE LEFT OUTSIDE?
Posted
on

Answer

The CFX range is marketed as weatherproof and can stand to be in a little bit of weather. However, we do suggest you use a little common sense. If it's going to be a pretty bad storm, it should be stored inside.

Question

DO THE CFX COOLERS MAKE NOISE WHILE RUNNING? HOW LOUD ARE THEY?
Posted
on

Answer

The CFX range is very quiet- we know of many customers, including ourselves, that have slept next to it in a vehicle or van without issues. The exact decibel (dB) measurement is in the specs and is 37dB.

Question

HOW LONG WILL THE COOLER HOLD TEMPATURE WITHOUT POWER?
Posted
on

Answer

From internal testing the "stuff" inside your CFX will warm up at approximately 1 degree Fahrenheit per hour, when the cooler is off. This was tested at 68F ambient temperature, compartment temperature of 38F, with cans of soda inside. Additionally the lid was left closed.

Remember- opening the lid frequently, a higher ambient temperature, and less "stuff" inside the CFX will cause the items to warm up faster.

Question

THE LIGHT ON MY CFX KEEPS SWITCHING BETWEEN GREEN AND ORANGE IS THIS NORMAL?
Posted
on

Answer

Yes it is normal for the light to change from green to orange as the compressor cycles on and off.

Question

WHAT FREE AIR SPACE IS REQUIRED AROUND THE PORTS NEARBY THE COMPRESSOR? WOULD 20-30MM BE SUFFICIENT?
Posted
on

Answer

The condensers are fan assisted, so they are fairly forgiving, but the more space you leave the better, as there will be less restriction to air movement. You would probably find performance OK at 30mm so long as the hot air could escape upwards. i.e. nothing covering the top of the refrigerator such as a shelf etc.

Question

What is the wattage output on it? Thank you.
Posted
on

Answer

When we multiply the Voltage, which is 12, by the amperage, which is 6.5, we get an output wattage of 78.

Question

How long is the 12 volt power cord?
Posted
on

Answer

The DC cable for all coolers is going to be 2 metres.

Question

Does the CFX 28 work with the WiFi App? I seem to see some info indicating it does others say no WiFi.
Posted
on

Answer

No, the CFX28 is not a Wi-Fi controlled model. This starts at the larger models.

Question

Hi. Would I need a dual battery set up in my Jeep to run this fridge?
Posted
on

Answer

At a standard level, no you would not need a dual battery set up. Depending on if you add other items/equipment, etc. it may be something to look into, but at standard level, no you'd be fine.

Question

What is the average 12V DC energy consumption at ambient temp of 90F and internal temp at 41F?
Posted
on

Answer

I had no problem - physical or electrical - running the CFX 28W from the 12V output jack on a Yeti 400 Lithium battery generator. Set for 41 degrees, it consumes about 40W for a 24 hour cycle.
