Product Description

The Isabella Bayonet Joint in grey for 26mm CarbonX poles is a nylon replacement fitting that connects roof rafter poles to corner or central cross sections in Isabella awnings. This bayonet fits onto the end of 26mm diameter CarbonX roof poles (used in Isabella awnings from 2010 onwards and Magnum 340/400 porch awnings). The fitting has a clear "open" marking moulded into the side that shows which direction to twist the pole for disconnection, and it locks into position with a simple quarter-turn twist once inserted into the connector socket.

This 26mm Bayonet Joint fits on the end of a Carbon-X roof pole and connects into a left, right or center connection point. Once inserted into the connection point a simple twist of the pole locks the bayonet joint into the connector. A clear 'open' sign on the side of the bayonet fitting, allows you to twist the pole into the correct position to remove from the joint in which it is situated.

Why do Isabella bayonet joints break during setup?

Bayonet joints break when the fitting isn't aligned square to the connector socket during insertion or removal. This typically happens in windy conditions when poles are being moved quickly, or when lowering a roof pole without first disconnecting the bayonet properly. The nylon lugs can snap if the pole is twisted while under lateral stress rather than being inserted straight and then rotated. Keeping spare bayonets on hand is sensible because a single broken fitting will prevent you from using the awning.

Replacing a broken bayonet is straightforward. The old fitting can be pushed out by inserting a dowel rod or broom handle up through the pole tube (some people cut the pole end off with a hacksaw but this isn't necessary). The new bayonet taps onto the pole end with a rubber mallet until it sits flush. These fittings work with CarbonX reinforced fibreglass frames, IXL fibreglass poles, and Zinox galvanised steel poles, making them compatible across Isabella's frame range. Standard Isabella awnings use 26mm diameter leg poles, while roof poles are either 26mm or 30.5mm depending on the model. This 26mm version fits the leg and roof poles on 250cm and 300cm depth awnings, as well as Minor and Magnum porch awnings which use 26mm throughout.

Ordered standard genuine Isabella parts for our very early Isabella pole awning. They are very well made, and reasonably priced. Packaged and delivered promptly. We have yet to use these parts, but will be doing so when we take our holiday in June. Without these replacements it would have been impossible to use our lovely old awning.

by Mr Michael Lecomber (06 Jul 2021)

I ordered 3 small items that were very light in weight and cost £10 and in truth were delivered promptly and efficiently, the reason for only 2 stars is that the postage was half the cost of the items at £4.99!! Check the delivery cost before confirming the order.
Update
After posting my review I received a very concerned email from Craig at Leisure shop direct explaining about the cost of postage and he gave me a £3 refund so perhaps they are not so bad after all. Proves they read the reviews. On second thought I have upgraded their rating to 5 star because their service was very good regarding delivery etc and their response to my complaint was acceptable.
