The Vango Omega range offers two tunnel tent options designed around the same core construction, weather protection and porch layout. Both the Omega 250 and 350 use Protex Eco ripstop flysheets made from recycled single-use plastics with a 3000mm hydrostatic head, PowerLite 7001-T6 aluminium poles and the TBS II tension band system to handle crosswinds on exposed pitches. The extra porch pole creates genuinely useful storage space for boots, rucksacks and cooking gear without cramping the sleeping area, whilst all-in-one pitching with the inner pre-attached to the flysheet speeds setup when you're tired or the weather's closing in. Each tent includes dual side access doors with O-shaped zips, Diamond Clear windows, mesh vents and a clip-in riser groundsheet to block draughts through the porch entrance.

Which Vango Omega tent should I choose for my expedition?

The Omega 250 weighs 4.3kg with a 49 x 17cm pack size and sleeps two adults comfortably, making it the better choice for Duke of Edinburgh pairs, bikepacking duos and lightweight backpackers splitting the carry between two rucksacks. The Omega 350 weighs 5.2kg with a 48 x 21cm pack size and offers a wider 220cm floorplan for three people, so it suits three-person DofE groups, small families and canoe or cycle tourists who want extra elbow room and more storage space for minimal additional weight.

The 70D polyester groundsheet on both tents delivers a 6000mm waterproof rating with a bathtub design that extends 10cm up the inner walls, whilst fully taped seams on the flysheet and groundsheet meet EN5912 weather testing standards. Colour-coded poles, high-vis reflective guylines and an oversized Fast Pack bag handle the practical details, and you have the option to pitch flysheet-first without the inner when you need quick shelter. Internal storage pockets keep headtorches and phones within reach, and partial mesh on the inner doors paired with full mesh on the porch entrance manages airflow without inviting midges inside. Fire retardant fabrics meet European EN5912 safety requirements, and both tents include lightweight aluminium alloy pegs with high-grip guyline adjusters that hold tension in harsh conditions.

Why are Vango Omega tents popular with Duke of Edinburgh groups?

Over 342,000 young people started their Duke of Edinburgh Award in 2024-25, with more than 572,000 actively working towards an Award across the UK. The Vango Omega range appears on the official DofE recommended tent list because both models feature TBS II wind bracing, Protex Eco recycled flysheets, 3000mm waterproof protection and shared-carry weights suitable for multi-day expeditions. The extra-large porch created by an additional pole provides dedicated storage space for boots and rucksacks without cramping the sleeping area, whilst the 12-minute all-in-one pitching system speeds setup for tired expedition groups.
